has anybody had an engine top end rattle noise on their fab vrs or any other pd diesel engined skoda , its like a noisy tappet type of sound over the usual diesel rattle .RIC.:confused:

Dont know what it is, but it taps when I havnt used the car in the morning and afternoon then come to start it early eve. Its weird, but it goes after a while.

Ive got a new ticking noise though and juddery/noisy wipers

Does the TDi have hydraulic tappets? I know my old K series used to sound worse than this TDi on a morning until the oil had circulated properly, then it was nice and smooth.

yep mine PD has done it a few times, does it more when the engine has cooled down a good bit and it sounds like a tick.. tick.. tick when idling, only goes away after a drive. but has only happened a few times over the 120k.

I get lots of variable bizarre noises. Had one this week, it's a bit like a rattly whistling noise, hopefully the noise willl go away on it's own, it's happened before.
