Car repairers in West Lothian

I have been given permission from my insurance company to take my car for repair to a garage of my choice.

The story goes that I had it repaired at Elder and Paton in Perth who were the recommended repairer for the repair, after taking it back 5 times I am looking for somewhere else to finish the repair to the correct standard.

I haven't got any knowledge of good repairers in my local area that I could trust so any info or recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi I know a guy who does excellent body work, used to be based in broxburn but is now in whitburn. Is it a bodyshop you need or is it mechanical. The prices are also very resonable and no he is not related to me.

There's a small bodyshop in Cowie (just outside Stirling) that did an excellent job taking dents out and respraying my mate's Audi TT. I can't remember their name but there's probably only one as it's a small village. They're pretty cheap and should be approved by most insurers because Stirling Audi use them all the time.

If it's mechanical I've always found West End Skoda in Broxburn to be pretty decent.

It's a bit of both, there is some bodywork to be rectified ie; painting, panel fitting, door lock alignment, scuttle panel adjustment alloy wheel refurb but new parts need fitted like a new indicator lens.

I also wanted all the mechanical repairs already carried out to be double checked to make sure nothing was missed as the garage in Perth missed so many bodywork items.

I was thinking about Westend but wasn't sure if they did their own spraying and panel beating or if they out sourced the work they don't do themselves.

Cheers for the help, I now have a couple of places to try locally.

Westend is the most convenient but will need to see what they will do about painting bodywork stuff.

My insurance company mentioned Protec in Bathgate as one of their agents but I'd never heard of them before.

One of the best body shops in West Lothian is CAIRNS COACHWORKS. I've used them a couple of times and they do an excellent job. They might be pricy but you pay for what you get and are highly recommended.

The only problem may be trying to book a space for your car to be seen, due to the popularity

I had a Laguna that got nudged once and the insurers got me to take it to Protec in Bathgate, they did a good enough job. To be honest I don't rate westend that highly, at least not for service. For body repairs Simpsons coachworks on 07764474752 in Bathgate are good.

I live in Fife and my wife works in Perth,My wife has a Renault Laguna,We have been using Elder and Paton ,In Perth for years, this post on here doesnt sound like them,I am very surprised and find it hard to believe.I would recommend them to anyone.They are a company with a good name.

I understand what you're saying but i can only go on my experiences from using them and the insurance assesor who was also the regional manager for the assesors couldn't believe all the stuff that had either been missed or done incorrectly!

I know for a fact that I won't use them ever again and just wanted to point out to other members of possible problems. I would always rather use a garage on recommendation than picking one from a copy of the Yellow Pages!

This was sorted almost 2 years ago , the original post was Feb 2006.

I ended up going to Saunders outside Broxburn and they did an exceptional job. Unfortunately I think they have shut, faather and son business and the father was retiring and they were struggling to compete with large repairer who are insurance approved /recommended repairers.
