Oh no, what have I done?

Featured Replies

So when I was in getting the Sprint serviced the other day, I decided to wait for it and drink the dealers coffee and have a look round,....

I couldn't believe how much kit some of the Tiger models have as standard these days, so the salesman said why not take one for a ride while you are waiting, I declined at that time but asked him to work out a cost to change. The cost to change was very favourable no doubt including a lot of good will after the issues with the Sprint after collection (all fixed now I must add) so I went home to think about it. Some e-mail exchanges and a telephone conversation the next day saw me back for a test ride on the Friday, this worked well as I had to be in Romford that day anyway! A couple of hours later and the deal was done and I'll be taking delivery of a Tiger 800 XRT next week hopefully .

As we were doing the paperwork I put my registration on retention (using the DVLA's on-line system) and told him what the new registration for the Sprint would be, I received the new V5C yesterday and then advised the DVLA that the bike had been sold again using their on-line system (I love what you can do on-line these days).

I have added a few bits as Triumph are supplying expedition panniers foc at the moment so I've added a matching top box and an alarm plus some other little bits.

Now all I have to do is jump through the "what chain oiler" loop again, although it will have to be a diy fit this time as the new holding company doesn't allow fitment of non manufacturers authorized accessories

Hook, line and sinker. They let you hang around with so much temptation everywhere. Hope you have a hassle free purchase this time.

As for the chain oiler. I think you went for the PD Oiler same as myself last time, in which case just remove the controller and pump/reservoir unit and leave the pipe in place. Buy a replacement pipe and get the Scottoiler dual feed nozzles to complete the setup on the new bike. The wick that came with the PD Oiler I thought was a great idea but in reality I found it just attracted dirt to it so deposited dirty oil onto the chain instead of clean. The addition of the Scottolier dual feed nozzles on mine in replacement for the wick has worked wonders and is now perfect and allowed for a neater installation i.e. no zip ties.

I went for the Scottoiler on the Sprint and left it on there as they did a really good installation. So I’m a free agent but like the sound of an electronic solution, sounds like you have a bit of a hybrid one on yours now :)

I know some on here had put the PD Oiler on as well as me. They are very simply to install especially if you have spare accessories wires under the saddle, which I'm sure you'll have. I couldn't be happier with the PD Oiler now I have the dual feed part instead of the wick. One tip if you're doing it yourself and that it is to prime the pipe with oil before connecting to the pump and speeds up the installation by a huge amount.

I highly recommend using Sugru  instead of zipties where you can to fix the pipe. Simply mould it around the pipe and push it to where you want to stick it and jobs done. If you want to remove it later just use a plastic edge like an old bank card to remove it and you'll never know it was there.  The reservoir/pump can be mounted out of sight and a tube is used to fill it up so can be hidden behind a side panel like I did with mine keeping valuable under seat storage for other items.

Sounds like the PD Oiler will be worth a look, thanks for the tips

OMG, what *have* you done indeed???!!!!!

Everyone knows that you should never, ever drink the dealership coffee!!!

If you're lucky, they'll only have laced it with hallucinogens, which is where you *think* you're signing for and buying a brand new Tiger, only to find them delivering a child-size BMX clone they got off eBay, complete with video evidence of you signing the form.... but if you're unlucky, their 'mechanic' out the back will have been at the coffee and you will be chugging down a mixture of oil, grease, ATF, floor dirt, road dirt, various bodily secretions and excretions, coolant, screenwash and whatever else the filthy YTS dropout has had his hands in....... although this might only be a problem with Reading dealerships!! :D

Nah, all the best with your new ride and definite score on the luggage.

Me, I still use a Scottoiler. Works well enough, once fitted.

haaa brilliant!

Doesn't seem long since you bought the Sprint?

I think you'll find the Tiger alot comfier tbh.. just an easier position isnt it.

How do you find the engines compared?

Defo a win on the luggage.. some moneys worth there eh!

Nice one!

Cheers, yes, apparently the panniers are £550.00 and the bike comes with 3 additional locks (like the Sprint) so that the bike, panniers and top box use the same key so thats a result

I had a good test ride on their Tiger 800 XCA whose riding position is very similar and that was very comfy and good to be able to look over over traffic, also got to try the heated grips, heated seat and cruise control and they all get the thumbs up as well so I'm looking forward to picking mine up on Thursday

Off to collect the Tiger 800 today so I have everything crossed

Enjoy your new bike. I was very tempted by the Tiger 800 last year after a test ride.

Cruise control is a great bonus on a very nice bike. Engine sounds great when you open it up.

Have a good day.

Yes, that’s the only down side, going to the girlfriends in Norfolk tomorrow, so I’ll have 300 or so miles on it by Monday so I’ve booked the 500 mile service early next Month:)

Not today, however when I had a test ride on their XCA demonstrator I did manage a couple of miles using it on the M25 (believe it or not) and found it very useful indeed.

I'm keeping off the motorways at the moment as Triumph have a very strict running in procedure which means for the first 300-miles no more than 5000 rpm, that equates to just under 70 mph so will stick to the A and B roads until I can pick up the pace a bit more and keep up with the traffic flow on the motorways ;)

I asked my brother to take a photo at the handover with my iPhone not realizing that with the latest ios you have to select "save" after you have taken the picture doh!

Hopefully the link below will work or I'll get some photos tomorrow of it.

Pretty good photos those (i did have to search abit to find them, but they aren't far away from the link!). Good quality too. Someone abit good with the metering and focus modes at the dealership on the quiet?

Looks a well tricked up bike that. Heated seat too... cant say i've ever had one of those on a bike!

So 310 miles completed now so now I can use up to 6000 rpm, so far so good and I'm really liking the Tiger 800

Just as well the new bike has heated seat as well as grips or you’d have been too cold when you got there for your leg over :)

It will be ready for its 600 mike service by next week

I've booked it in for early December, but that may need to be reviewed lol.

The heated seat and grips were a real added bonus last night on the journey home :thumbup:
