Engine swap a 1.4 to 1.9

Featured Replies

Got a 1.4TDi skoda fabia 06 plate. Been wanting a bit more power recently and it seems to me the best way to do that (and cheapest) would be a engine swap to 1.9TDi. Anyone on here done it? Was told I could keep the loom in the car just change out engine, dash display, clutch, ecu etc. Anything I may be missing here?

Nah. Sell yours, buy a car with the 1.9 already in it.

"Don't build what you can buy."

Yes, stick it in the paper and buy a PD100, they're plentiful and cheap.

There's absolutely no point in wasting all that time and money changing parts when a complete car is easier.

Edit: SNAP!!!

A remap could probably bring you close to 100hp if you are looking for more power

As per the above remap or buy rather than build.

VRS is expensive, PD100 is not and will remap nicely to give you that 'wee' bit more powah.

Thing is, if youve already remapped and got bored of the extra power then it wont be long before the same thing happens with a pd100. Youll end up wanting to swop a pd130 into it or modifying it to make more power.

decide what you really want and whether its worth just buying a vrs which can be mapped to make quite a quick little car

Having been involved with engine swaps back in the day where you didn't have the electronic constraints of modern vehicles the only time they make sense are :-

1. You have the new engine for free i.e. written off vehicle.

2. Competition reasons to meet some class requirement.

3. You are trying to make something that is a rare option or not available.

In general you need both vehicles stood together buying individual parts is typically not economic/time effective.

So given this just get another car, whether it is a PD100 or a VRS is dependent on how much you have to spend.
