Rust bubbles and corrosion on 2010 car?

Featured Replies

Bought An awesome superb 2.0 tdi cr 170 4x4 estate last week when I gave it it's first wash down I noticed on the bottom left of the boot lid a small Amount of paint has come away and it's bubbling :(

Also noticed at around the number plate there is some bubbling too quite minor but it's there.

Thought the bodies were galvernised these days!?

Taking it to skoda in a few weeks time as it's having the alloys powder coated this week having an ecu rollback next week and then I'm busy on courses.

Hoping they sort it under the 10yr perforation guarantee.

Anyone else had this issue ??

It's done 75k 1 owner and has a full skoda main dealer history just surprised the previous owner didn't get this sorted !

First thing to check is has it been repaired?

Also check the service history,  Skoda dealer should have checked the paint and ticked as ok.

They will measure the thickness of the paint to check for a re-spray.

Don't forget it must come from inside to the outside, Mae sure the paint wasn't damaged and caused the rust. Now the paint is missing you may have a problem unless other areas are bubbling.

My VRs started to bubble on the tailgate weld but wasn't through. Repaired under warranty, 8 years old when done.

Ok so I know there is some bubbling under the number place so if its not been resprayed but the paint is missing i KNOW there are some other small areas under the number plate where the bubbles are forming too where there is no damage what so ever so they can inspect that if they suspect the other two areas are due to chips or problems like that.

That is my money shot right there lol

Failing all that i'll just get it resprayed myself I guess, not the end of the world.

it would only be the bottom half of the tailgate anyway from the number plate down so that section, chips away could probs do it for under 200 quid.

I would try my luck at the dealership first, the worst they can say is no.

If it's metallic make sure it gets a clear coat as well if you get it sprayed.

These are the areas I'll be asking about.

When I removed the plate I also noticed minor bubbles too....

The one on the bottom of the door is hopeful as long as the is no indication of external damage when looking close up.

The one above your number plate looks as if it is a scratch. Is that where your boot release is, if so it could have been some keys were in someone's hand at the time.

Yea I hear ya but the money shot is under the number plate where the paint is clean and more rust bubbles are forming.

They will see that if they pill the plate off.
