CO2 figures before tune and after

Featured Replies

I have been looking at the Shark tune (this is not me knocking them) and asked them. What were the before and after figures for CO2 and I was going to ask about the other mot gases. The surprise to me anyway was that they did not do or have any readings. This may be the norm though as I stated it did surprise me as I would have thought they do alter but by how much.

Does anyone have any figures or am I looking at something that is not available.

Other tuners may but I obviously do not know.

I would think the majority of re-mappers would not have these figures available. Probably the only ones that do, will be them at offer official performance add on's like Mountune.

What sort of CO2 figure do you want? If you want something comparable with the original NEDC rating, then they'd have to pay to put the vehicle through that test cycle at an appropriate laboratory, which isn't cheap. There's also the question of whether the tuner would want those figures in the public domain as it might draw attention from regulators.

Measuring the emissions under no-load conditions might not tell you very much about the changes if the vehicle is under load.

CO2 change will be (inversely) proportional to mpg change. So if your remap gives you better mpg, your CO2 output will be lower; and vice versa.

That was my thinking as well but as I said I just thought that they would have the figures so that when you do your mot that you would not be in danger of exceeding any of the gases figures. I know it is much more scientific than what it used to be (loads more fuel means more power scenario) these days.

MOT measures neither CO2 nor NOx  (the other one most likely to be affected).

Have remapped my superb and had 2 mot since and the car passed both with flying colours on the emissions  test and everything else.

NOx and CO2 are not part of the emissions test and an MOT or NCT (Irish MOT) tell you nothing about the level of either one coming out your tailpipe. They test cars for smoke/particulates, carbon monoxide levels and hydrocarbons (unburnt fuel/oil in exhaust). Not NOx. Not CO2.

I'd imagine that the very last thing a remapper would want to do is discuss emissions ... especially the NOx, after they have exercised their skills.  Advancing the timing to up the torque (common in diesel remaps) results in a significant increase in NOx. If they broadcast that fact in public then the remapping business might get restricted pretty quickly.... better for them to focus on MPG, torque and HP increases.
