FABIA SUSPENSION LEG

Featured Replies

Hi Guys and Gals,

My car is a Skoda Comfort 1.9 Diesel. Year 2003 and I just LOVE it.

My mechanic (otherwise known as my boyfriend when he's being a good boy - lol) has asked me join and ask whether the front nearside suspension leg is the same throughout the range or whether they are specific to the actual car. What I mean is: would a suspension leg from, say, a  Fabia 1.2 fit mine (1.9 Diesel). Daft question I know but I'm new to all this forum stuff. Got to say it's brilliant, though. Hope one of you gurus can help me.

Although the suspension legs from different Fabias may physically fit, I wouldn't be surprised if the damping rates may be different on some models - the diesel engine is much heavier than the 1.2 engine for example. And the coil springs are definitely different!

You could check the parts catalogue to see which one is for your car...

with either springs or shocks it is good practice to replace in pairs   lot of weight on the front with a diesel and by 70K  the shocks have had it  (bounce test is useless)   p.s and if factory springs are as good as SEAT ones they will have seen better days too

Thank you  for your replies and my sincere apologies for the long delay. As my name suggests, I fly for a living and have been out of the country so not using the car. Thank you again x

Not only my arms, my legs as well. I steer with those. Make what you will of that - lol

The diesel model will have much stronger springs and stiffer dampers than a 1.2 petrol especially if it is a turbo diesel.

If your car is a 2003 then you will be due a set of shock absorbers and springs it is also good practice to replace the strut top bearings at the same time.

If one spring has gone the other side won't be far behind it.

Given the cheap cost of new parts these days and the fact there are no nearly new cars to take parts from it is not worth fitting scrap yard parts.
