Fabia 1.9 tdi non starting

Featured Replies

Good morning. My fabia bought two weeks ago is not starting anymore. No warning lights on board and everything was just fine till yesterday evening when wanted to go for a ride and nothing. It starts and run just on spray. If you cut off ignition and try again, the same. Nothing, just on spray. It sounds like an injector issue but think its not. The fuse nr 24 from inside panel found blown, change it two times and in the very moment when switch the key in ignition, blown. I read that this fuse is for “engine electronics”. What could it be, please. Unfortunately, no car no job so any ideas welcome

Hi Calin, what year is your car?

A quick look at a wiring diagram for an ATD code engine points to fuse 24 supplying three solenoid valves inside the 'vacuum block' over on the driver's side suspension turret (pins 1, 3 & 4 of the 6-way connector). The feed gets there on a blue/black wire which also has a plug/socket junction on the front of the other suspension turret at pin 6 of a 14-way connector there.

Have a good look at the wiring near both of these areas.

Thanks a lot Wino. You’re so right, I had disconect the valve block mentioned by you and also the cam shaft sensor wich seems to be on the same fuse both - no 24, plug them again and miracle! The fuse wont blow up anymore and the engine starts in a blink of an eye. Thanks Lord!

I’m still wondering what was that, appear from nowhere and dissapear as I said. Still dont know what to expect further but for now its just ok. Thanks Gad! And thank you for your support. If have any ideas just to understand this issue, many thanks anyway. Cheers

Glad you got it going again @Calin.  Yes, I didn't see the connection to the cam sensor when I looked earlier.

There may even be another connection to N79, a "heating resistor for crankcase ventilation" which is shown as an option "only on vehicles with optional equipment".

It doesn't appear on the earliest wiring diagrams, but is there on 2002> diagrams.

I've heard of this resistor causing fuses to blow previously, so if your car has this item, I would suggest it's a strong possibility that it has caused your problem and may do again.  Disconnecting it should solve the problem temporarily (or permanently), if it does happen again.

It may only cause trouble in some conditions of temperature, condensation inside engine etc.

I'm not sure where this heater/resistor is located if it is fitted, probably near the PCV valve in the cam cover, or at the end of the hose from there where it enters the intake hose?

It has a two-wire connection, same blue/black 12V feed, and a brown earth wire.
