LED interior lighting

Featured Replies

My other w5w's have four small led's on the top face (face down when installed in reading light slots) plus few led's on sides.

The top ones give the extra downward facing light. Will see if i can find seller but i have had these a while now.

Any lumen spec will be BS.

the world is against us plonkers...!!!

got my 20 fuses in the post today

4 of each 7.5 up to 30

they go in the car kit now along with a screwdriver and some spanners...and a small socket set..

sometimes i have to disconnect my big battery to stop a fan running on so i keep those handy

cheers

My car is pretty much full led including external lights only the brake and tail lights bring up warnings

The rear plates was annoying as canbus free should be no warnings but i got the yellow light on the dash immediately, so the same link i gave you for the rear plates sells the resistors. (Remember no plate is always on) Better to have resistors if going LED route

3 Types of Plug & Play resistors - found a pic of the ones i used VAG Type 'B' (centre one) - when you undo the number plate you can check which fitting it is.

I forgot you guys are Fabia whilst mine Octavia.

The W5W i mentioned are standard fit (with + & - as always with led's)  and these make quite good side lights as well as interior read lights in my Octy.

The length of them sits just inside the read light lens on mine, and work well.

The 42mm are fitted front and back interior and in the doors in mine.

If you check your fitting you will probably find that 42mm will squeeze in and work just fine.

I haven't been to the shop but will have a look, lol.

I haven't bothered with my number plate and there seems difference of opinion on Fabia as to error messages. Guess this depends on spec or more likely age of car.

That simple..................Cheers geof. See if i can remember next time i want to do it. I always forget about my right click button.

I think it's the 2011 model onwards where you will get a canbus error with the LEDs.

i fitted LED to my DRL using twenty20 Cree bulbs and they worked perfectly, got some canbus LEDs for the number plate off eBay and they gave the dash light error about 1 in 4 starts of the car.  I am just going to replace them for a set that have the resistor pack built in I think.

brilliant post...puts everyting into perspective

i guess since my bus is late 2008 i may not have those problems...which i want NOT!!

Cree keeps cropping up in some places i have surfed...are they different from LEDs

all i wanted was a brighter light, not really interested in all those colour options and mega light output

i am a simple chap and fear car electronic problems...

good post and thanks

thanks again...this is a massive learning curve for me...on my 2001 golf 1.6S all i ever did was to put in hight power headlights...not LED i must say...

just finished putting 5 LED downlighters in the bedroom today...wire up tomorrow...that is my speed in electrics

the car ones baffle me..

just an observation...what is the thinking about using led for the rear number plate...is it to save power?

Do you mean you got error warnings on your brake and tail lights, or that it's just the rear lights that give a warning if you change them to LED?  i was going to change my front and rear indicator bulbs to LED, not sure about the tai lights and brake lights.

interesting about those Halfords bulbs, unbelievable!!  I may go and get some if they have a trade price for them...

Cree is a type of LED.  It's used an awful lot in mountain bike 24hr racing, they usually combine 3-5 together to get 2000+lumens out of them.  luxeon is the next generation and much brighter.  The twenty20 Cree bulbs will work rally well for your drls, if you want LED projectors then see AMD87s post on them.  If you want a quick and easy bright headlight then get a set of the stealth bulbs from www.hids4u.co.uk, get them in the 5000 kelvin.

The tail and brake lights give warnings. I’ve got leds in the reverse and fog and they seem fine although the rear fog and brake lights were the same red led bulbs

Must be something to do with supplying the correct current through them so that the brake lights are brighter than the tail lights?  I was half wondering how they would work if I swapped them over to LED and if I should buy white or red, looks like I will just leave it actually and swap the indicators.  I put a Cree in the reverse light and that's much better.

Thought that too although the brake lights aren’t on until you brake unless some cars where they are on then get brighter when you brake.

Must be one of those things!

Really keen on trying the new autobeam led indicators as they say they don’t need resisitors.

I was going to try the Twenty20 ones as they seemed to claim no errors, will have a look at those autobeams

Twenty20s are good have them in my drls everything else is autobeam bar the headlights which are techmax.

For me its just a nicer brightness of LED vs Halogen. Been in nearly  a year now all LED's, not one has failed.

"Twenty20s are good have them in my drls everything else is autobeam bar the headlights which are techmax".

Where the Techmax a simple, no fuss fit and are they brighter then Osram Nightbreakers, would you say?  I believe the Techmax come in at around £40 but I have heard some users say they had to use a Dremel (Other small, hand held tools are available) To trim down some of the shielding to fit them in. Also, where they say turbo fan, is this ACTULLY a spinning fan or is it airflow, round a sort of helical fixture, that spins the air around, aiding cooling? I ask as I would have thought a fan would have added to wattage consumption, rather then lowering it, what is what LED fitments are all about! Brighter lights, lower power usage!

100% brighter than any halogen I’ve put in it and it’s a proper white light.

You would need to dremil the current bulb holders or just by adaptors they are only £7/£8 and it’s an actual cooling fan.

Philips have just developed a set of H7 led headlamp replacement bulbs as well, not cheap at £150 but they pretty much just slot straight in.

most expensive h7's ever created? just noticed not road legal in the small print, not sure why as i am blinded by most new Audi's which i am sure is partly LED at fronts
