Replacement Keyfob

Featured Replies

Had a bunch of keys stolen including the car key.

Fortunately there's no way they could know who I am or where my car is, but I will have to splash out on a replacement.

I understand that this has to be done in proximity to the car.

Are there any good discounts to be had in the London area?

Dealer visit really, but they can also disable the lost key too so it can never been used on your car.

Interestingly, the dealer I spoke to (a bit late in the evening) couldn't be sure what parts were needed, and needed to check with central parts (who were closed) but will call me back. It's a pricey business!

...and now a guy in the hardware store where I had my other keys replaced is saying that there are independent key people who can come out to you and do it much cheaper!

But the new design (2016 onwards) can only be done at a dealership.

So cost for the key is £91 (which is not bought from the dealership, but a separate company called TPS) and cost for "fitting" is £60 and you have to turn up in person twice with proof of ownership. A bit tedious...

how much do the dealership charge for the fob, if TPS are £91?  I suppose all the rigmarole is just to ensure you are the cars owner.  Also TPS are a volkswagen group owned trade spares company, and are quite handy if you know one that will sell to the public.

Dealerships don't do parts any more. That's all been contracted out to TPS for some reason. Went in today to place my order. They seem a touch on the incompetent side to me, but I eventually got them to take the order.
