VRS 4X4

Featured Replies

Evening all,

I have been very tempted to go for a Superb simply because of space for my 3 growing kids. 19,17,9 y/o

However I really love the Octavia VRS. We are moving house within the next 3/4 weeks to the countryside and living in Wales can bring snow most years for a week or so. Due to the country lanes and mud etc and i'm toying with the idea of a 4x4.

Does anyone on here drive the new VRS 4x4 DSG Diesel and if so can you tell me what its like?

Thanks

Hi, I originally had a front wheel drive VRS and then swapped it for a 4x4 version around 12 months ago. The car itself is fantastic, so much more stable and driveable in any weather. They are clearly not designed to go off roading in, however I occasionally help out on a friend's farm and it's pretty impressive that it can go up wet/ muddy fields without getting stuck.

Trading it in next Monday for a brand new Facelift version, again VRS 4X4.

Great cars, I have had an ongoing issue with my current car (main reason i'm trading in). I bought the car 4 months old and the rear diff was making an awful noise, this was replaced under warranty. However the noise re-appeared around 4000 miles ago and the local Skoda service dept are not interested. They keep saying, "yes, the diff is noisy again, but it works"!

In total this car has spent around 8 weeks at the dealer without any long term fix. I don't think it's a reflection of the model, just I ended up buying a lemon!

Unfortunately, from my experience of Skoda, the part that lets the brand down is the aftersales service.

I have a 16 plate 4x4 vRS estate and also live in rural mid Wales :) Traction is useful on cruddy wintery Welsh roads, but the right tyres help of course...

I also have three children but different ages - 13, 4 and 2.

If I could have had a manual I wouldn't have paid more for DSG but it's fine really. Economy isn't wonderful - I get about 35mpg long term but then I don't drive very economically :notme:

Lots of space and ticks every box for us as a family though.

I have a set of 18's with winter tyres on and a set of 19s Xtremes with summer tyres on, that way I can easily swap them at home in the garage rather than having to go to the tyre fitter twice a year to have them swapped

Interesting and great comments. Surprised about the economy but I suppose that does depend on roads and journeys and of course why have a VRS to drive like a Sunday driver.

Just out of interest "Are they heavy on tyres?"

Why, oh why, oh why don’t Skoda do a petrol vRS 4x4?

I’d buy one tomorrow. Golf R too pricey & too small, Seat 300 not for me, and too small too.

Come on Skoda! Give me (us) what we want!!

No worse than my previous two MK2 vRS's. Being 4x4 the fronts don't get too mullered by wheelspin and understeer, which was a bit of an issue on previous fwd MK2's. 19" tyres (35 profile) are more susceptible to pothole damage than 18"s (40 profile) though as I have found out

I have a second set of wheels with winter tyres but have just replaced all four summer tyres at 22k miles. So taking into account the winter tyre use, I reckon I got about 17k from the original set, having rotated them front to rear mid life too.

They were not completely shot when I changed either - I badly wanted rid of the hateful OEM Pirellis...

Why not get a petrol Superb 280 4x4. Much faster than an Octavia vRS.

I haven't looked at them to be honest. I just really like the VRS styling and sporty looks.

Superb 280 4x4. Well thats what I've ordered. I only have 2 kids but I like them as far away from me as possible.....

I’m very tempted, but they are pricey, more than Golf R pricey.

The PCP / PCH deals are big bucks too. I priced up a S3 280 a while back alongside a Golf R with similar spec. Drive the Deal.

Can’t remember the exact numbers but, with £6k down over three years the Golf was about £290 and the Superb £550 per month.

I think a two and a half to three-year-old S3 280 is likely to be my future in about two years’ time.

Well yes but you get much more car for your money with the 280. But I would imagine the Golf handles better (never driven one). So it’s a matter of whether you need a huge fast car or a normal sized fast car!

Huge fast car is the shout for me - two rapidly growing children!

Superb 280 is a great car. I considered one and test drove one but the sort of mileage I do I couldn’t justify the loss in mpg.
