Chrome surround on front grill?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

anyone know where to get a replacement grill surround in black. The current on on my facelift VRS is chrome as you can see in my avatar but I want it black.

I have seen it on superskoda but I think £71.53 with postage for what is essentially a bit of plastic is excessive, it's not the whole grill, just the surround. I have enquired about having it vinyl wrapped and thought about trying plasti-dip but if there is one available for £50 or under I would consider it :)

Actually same question for the wing mirror covers, I'd like them black too, I know it is pretty much a clip off cover either side but a reasonably priced gloss black set would be great!

I got mine from SuperSkoda, in Magic Black, which happens to be an exact match for my wheels, which is Magic Black, as the original chrome surround looks a bit out of place and dated...  I too, had asked about getting it vinyl wrapped or plasti-dipped, but didn't fancy the chrome showing when stone chipped.  Plus no worries about the vinyl peeling off.  The grille surround from SuperSkoda is excellent quality, fit is perfect and would recommend it.  I would also recommend getting a new badge at the same time, as it is difficult enough getting the original badge off the chrome one, as the double-sided glue pad is super-sticky!

I didn't consider the chrome showing through the vinyl with stone chips to be honest. How easy is it to remove the chrome grill, does it pop off or does it need the whole grill taking off?

I still think £80 for a plastic grill surround is excessive though :(

Well yeah :D

What I meant was is there an alternative site to superskoda who do the same sort of thing but at a better price, maybe somewhere in the UK where postage is less?

Secondly, I can't even see any black wing mirror parts on superskoda, there was some carbon ones but I'd like some black magic style wing mirrors, anyone have any idea if this sort of thing is available or is it just a respray/vinyl job?

The mirror caps don't come pre painted (even from a dealer) so the easy and cheaper solution there is to buy from E bay (other auction sites are availible) and paint them yourself.

Ok, I appreciate the advice!

I will have a look and see what I can find :)

I strongly recommend the honeycomb badgeless Grill from Superskoda. Get it Sprayed the same colour as your car...whilst your at it, the eyebrows really match it quite nicely. The colour has faded slightly since it was done so matches nicely now (with a bit of road grime on). I think it transforms the front end.

not a fan personally but each to their own

No not my cup of tea either I'm afraid. Mine is a pre face lift and I've just painted the grill race blue to match the car and didn't find it too difficult tbh. Fitted the new style badge at the same time and it looks really good imo.

Someone else posted photos of the Super Skoda mesh grille and the build quality/fit looked pretty poor?

I went for  a spare OEM grille from eBay for £50, though I still need to find somewhere to colour code it to the car.

I do appreciate how it looks with colour coded spray, myself though black with the new style badge is my preference on the look of the car!

Hmmm. That honeycomb and eyebrow thing is obviously a VERY personal choice.

Hehe, the eyebrows I get, but the honeycomb looks far far better in real life than the big silly straight down OEM style, and it matches the parts below it. The chrome just had to go....

with the honeycomb  grill i think you have to trim the bonnet release bar as it wont come through the grill

Yup, slight trim with a dremel and is all good. No real problem opening it once done. :-)

I got one of those honeycombe grilles from superskoda but once on the car I just couldn’t get used to it. Had it on for a few months but I have now gone back to the oem chrome one which I now can’t decide if I want to colour code it or black it out. The honeycombe one is now sitting in my garage if anyone wants one. Painted in silver ready to go just not got round to putting it up for sale yet
