Auto choke intermittent - 2013 TSI Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

Hoping someone can put this to bed for me!

When I start my fabia I sometimes get high revs (above 1000) I assume this is the car auto choke feature but really not sure (not very clued up on cars)

The thing is it sometimes doesn't do it from cold as in first thing in the morning then after work it kicks in?

I don't get it

Want to know is it a fault or a built in programme ?

Any help would be appreciated

What does the RPM go to in the morning then when cold? Does it go there and stay there until you drive off?

Is this a Petrol and not a diesel.

Working as should if you car runs OK. Starts and runs smooth,  and as well if the RPM rises with A/C on or extra load on the battery.

EDIT,

Sorry,

missed TSI in the title.  so all is well.

Not so much a choke but I think the engine management will push the revs up to get the cat etc up to operating temperature quicker.

Suggest that you do not depress the throttle pedal at startup... let the management system take initial full control

Hi All

Thanks, a couple of things

I don't touch the the throttle pedal on start up, just turn the key

So after work last night revs went straight above 1000, no AC on, in the morning revs lower around 800

I assume the engine management decides what to do based on the temperature but based on what is happening it's  confusing

If you log Engine module Group 50 measuring blocks with VCDS you can compare specified and actual idle rpm to see how closely the system is following orders.

I think the specified idle rpm mainly is a function of coolant temperature. Other factors like alternator load may add a correction/change.
