Will these winter wheels fit my car?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Looking at a steel wheel and winter tyre package.  I currently have the factory fitted 235/45/18's on  looking at buy this https://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/skw.pl?dsco=110&s_p=Steel_wheels&sowigan=Wi&Hersteller=Skoda&PKWtyp=SUPERB+4X4+2.0+TSI&PKWtypgenau=%3A456533%3A%3A1984%3A206%3A201503%3A+%3A57.00%3A112.00%3A5%3A3T+%3A%3AP%3AE11*2001%2F116*0326*.&Gf_last=&Gfelge=16+inch&Ggroesse=&Gmarke=

Any help appreciated (by the way, I know it will look horrific but I would rather have the grip over the winter!)

Cheers

@mcnallykev - No, they will probably not fit your car, because it's a 280. The smallest wheel size you can use is 17".

There was a long discussion by someone on the 280 PS thread who seemed insistent 16" would fit because they were advertised as being for the 280 and the final result of that conversation is posted here.

Both the 220 and 280 have 340 mm front discs that will not accommodate 16" wheels. The only exception is the skinny 16" space saver as it does not enclose the discs.

All other Superb III have 300 mm front discs.

This document http://www.rindt-gaida.de/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Serienreifen_02_2017.pdf (German Skoda dealer) was on the Skoda,de website.  Google describes it as "17 Feb 2017 - The TÜV technical monitoring Hessen GmbH, area auto service, has the compilation of.Series tires on behalf of ŠkodaAuto Deutschland GmbH created for the following vehicles: Škoda Citigo.(Type AA). Škoda Fabia. (Type 6Y). Škoda Fabia practice. (Type 6Y). Škoda Fabia II. (Type 5J).........."

I think this is the approved tyre/wheel/offset for the 280 engine

Yeah, I was advised by the leasing company that they would only supply winter tyres and not a wheel/tyre swap due to the required wheel size. I had to sign off on it, saying I was happy to have the normal alloys on all winter and that I would promise to wash them every week

Thanks Guys!

Saved me a whole load of hassle there!  Now do I just go for tyres and swap then on the rims or get new alloy rims too.  Seems like a lot of expense!

Come on, it was the dealer who insisted they fit, lol.

If anyone is looking for a set of winter alloys and tyres, I've just picked up a brand new set of genuine 17" VW Corvara alloys with Conti WinterContact TS 850 P tyres (215/55/r17 98V XL) for £649 delivered from Parts Depot on eBay. I've got no link to them but for this money it would have been 16" steel wheels from anywhere else. Match the handbook spec exactly.

What I simply do with all our cars is to fit all season tyres as the factory fit tyres wear out. New tyres go on back, swap half worn back to front. Sure for me it will probably take 4 to 5 years before the 1st change, but I have 2 fabias on all seasons to run about in bad/winter weather which has been rare the last few winters.

Preference is cross climates or quattrac 5's if they are much cheaper. Also had good experience with Goodyear 4 season gen 2. All seem to have considerably longer life than factory fitted tyres, possibly because the all seasons are usually XL rated.

Shocked at the price of 235 40 18 however.  Twice what I'm used to paying.

I've recently fitted Quatrac 5's to my Sportline.  I'm very impressed so far.  It's just a shame a lot of manufacturers don't create an all-season tyre for 19" rims.  Surely missing a trick with the SUV market...

Yes, I have those fitted to my Sportline, the standard Vega rims are 19".  To be clear; I meant that it's a shame *more* manufacturers don't go past R18 in their all-season offerings.  I could only find Vredestein and Maxxis who did.  The Cross-climates would have been my first choice and then possibly the GY Vector 4Seasons but these just aren't available.

My only reservation with the Quatrac 5's was that they are proven but are getting on a bit in terms of technology.  The new 'trend' in all season tyres is to make a Summer tyre Winter-proof rather than start with a Winter tyre and make it suitable for all year round usage; wet weather performance  and aquaplaning seem to be the biggest problems with doing this.  Looking at the reviews of the Crossclimates this makes them a much better a proposition if you only want to have one set of wheels/tyres that behave like a regular tyre but give a little bit of confidence in Winter conditions too.

However up to now the Quatrac 5's are doing well and I'm pleased with them over the factory fit P7's.
