Octavia pre-FL charcoal filter

Featured Replies

Hi,

My dealer informs me that the charcoal evap filter on my 2007 vRS (108k miles) needs to be changed soon or the car will start complaining. They say the solenoid valve that accompanies it needs to be changed at the same time.

Is this an easy job I can do myself or should I hand over cash to the dealer? Roughly what is involved please? Do I need to work any VCDS magic or just put the parts in?

Thanks,

Paul.

It's very easy. The canister just pushes on to some rubber grommets and easily lifts off. Pop a couple of pipes off iirc very easy. The solenoid is fairly straight forward as well. You will have to break the clips off and replace with jubilee clips though. My car was indicating a fault when I first bought it. I changed the canister first but the fault came back. I then changed the solenoid and have had no more faults. I did clear the codes with a Bluetooth scanner though.

Thanks.

It didn't look like it should be hard but the fact the dealer wants to charge me two hundred and odd quid made me think there may be more to it than I realised.

Probably parts £100 and min dealer labour £100! May take them 30mins? @meaty101 could confirm as he indicates he's done it.

I'm sure the solenoid can be had for around  £20 off eBay. That's for a genuine item. I paid a bit extra and ordered it from TPS and got it the next day. The canister was quite expensive from the dealer or TPS so iirc I think I got mine either off the bay or aliexpress. It was somewhere like that because it took a while and came from China. I'm sure that was only 25 or 30 quid iir. I wouldn't be handing out £200 for that job that's obscene!!

Time wise TheClient got it about right. 30 minutes for the whole job. The clips are quite fiddly on the solenoid but nothing too taxing. A quid for a twin pack of jubilee clips can't see where they get £200 from.

If it's a tfsi petrol I removed the top air filter box as well. It made it easier to get at the solenoid. Not sure if I needed to but I did. I'll have a look later today and see if I can find the receipt with the p/n on if it helps.

I would leave it UNTIL it starts complaining,    you can feel the solenoid when it works (buzzes but not all the time) it switched in and out by the ECU     I would check the lines are clear /not split  and replace one piece at a time

I tried one at a time but whichever part I changed first first was the wrong one. But yes I agree on both points, it'll only be one part at fault but you won't know until its replaced. And I'm not actually sure how the car will complain. You'll maybe smell a bit of fuel vapour but not sure why that would affect running. Anyway, there is 2 receipts only stating valve both ordered on the same day. I also ordered a dump valve as the original was knackered. So I think I've got the right p/n but if not it'll be the other receipt.

Purge valve p/n S06E906517A. It should start with 1K instead of the S I think but it's a superseded part hence the S.

Charcoal canister is 1K0201801E. Fitted to Mk5 Golfs and Leons too so plentiful. I got a genuine vag part of the bay iirc only £20 roughly. Hopefully save you some money!!

Thank you all. That's really good info.

I thought the wrong side of £200 sounded a bit steep.

I would say around £50 to £60 cost wise for parts. No need to pay for fitting it's a very easy fix.

I order one via Ali express for £32 came within 15days as I paid extra for express delivery, otherwise it would have cost me £14!.

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. I just took the canister out, shook it and let it air for a bit and it's been fine since no problem.
