One key isn’t working

Featured Replies

Got got a mk3 Vrs estate, one the keys for the car is not working, no red light flashes when I push the buttons, does this mean it’s a simple battery problem? Or could this be more?

you could try the battery first, if not & you have not had the car long, take it back to the dealer & tell them the second key does not work!

I’ve ordered up some Duracell cr2032 , bought the car private, he did explain the problem to me, it has worked a couple times then the next it doesn’t. Seems like a battery issue

Yeah try the battery first, would be the cheapest option, if not that! then check the VCDS map on the forum for someone that is close to you & might be able to diagnose the issue or assist you further.

I’m lucky enough to have a cousin who has a vcds which helps :-)

You could always take the battery out of the working key for trial. It may save a wait for the Postman to deliver new batteries.

Jokes aside that’s a really good idea, gift horse looking straight at me there never even thought about doing that haha.

Shoot me now :-)

Are you getting the "change key battery" warning when starting the car?

I haven’t actually used that key to start the car, if I try it in the ignition will it say?

Just had a message to replace fob battery. Timpsons declined to do it, so main dealer tomorrow, snow permitting.

Timpsons did replace my Mk2 battery several times, so any reason they may now jib at it?
