buying my first yeti

Featured Replies

Hi i am new to this forum ,  And as i  have fallen in love with the skoda yeti

i would like to buy a used diesel automatic years from 2012 to 2014 are within my budget.

The problem i have is that i am not seeing positive reviews about the automatic DSG gearbox

so would the kind people of the Briskoda forum please offer me some advice.

I know its my choice but i could really do with some help

many thanks

The dsg is great as long as it is used properly.

Misuse can cause premature clutch wear. Dont allow it to creep in traffic with the clutch slipping. I tend to manually select first in that situation as it likes to get into 2nd almost as soon as moving and will only change back to 1st if cpompletely stopped. I will sometimes quickly select manual and 1st gear to stop it slipping the clutch in 2nd if I nearly but not quite stop before moving off again. However 99% of gearchanges are auto and I really like it after 6 months and 7.5k miles of learning to use it.

Just remember it is not a true automatic with a torque converter which can happily creep along, but an automated manual gearbox with clutches and needs driving differently. Hence all the issues in America where they drove them like old style autos.

I have read of a dsg taxi which had reached 540k miles on the original clutches, still going fine, and use as a taxi must be the worst situation for clutch wear.

I would be more concerned with the "fix" which has probably been applied to the cars you are interested in, and will have been done to any sold by a Skoda dealer.

Great car, as long as you can get one that is not 'fixed'

I had a  loaned 2WD TDI for a month a few years ago- cloth seats, crap headlights and 5 speed - and it was by quite a margin the nicest Yeti I have driven . But I can't see the point of buying one when you get a quicker, more economical and better handling Golf etc. I wanted and needed 4wd and had firstly a 140 Elegance and now a 170 4wd . Neither is exactly fun to drive - but that's what happens when you add the weight of 4wd I guess . But as a fit for purpose vehicle ? Outstanding - go anywhere (on winter tyres especially) , quick (for what it is ) very comfy, outstanding lights , toys and 45mpg . And best of all - it's roomy inside but outside it's much smaller than stuff like Focuses , let alone the ghastly lardarse SUVs so many people seem to love .

I suspect you have been reading about 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG that have had some issues,

these are not the same as the 6 Speed Wet Clutch DSG in the Yeti you are thinking of.

(They need Servicing at 40,000 miles though. The only bad reviews on them are usually from people that like having 3 pedal cars.)

We have the 2017 1.2 Drive DSG model.

Can't fault it. The last models from the factory (given the model name Drive)  came with almost £1900 of extras including  the Admunsen satnav, which is superb in my view, so that would be my own choice.

We bought a petrol model...Just don't like diesel. Fuel consumption is very reasonable if the car is driven with care.

The high driving position and ease of entry and exit were good selling points too.

Then there's the rear seats that can be completely removed from the vehicle in a couple of minutes. Handy for DIY and other use.

I could go on. Suffice to say.... You ain't having mine :D We are more than delighted with it.

Go get one.

The DSG is great provided it has been serviced correctly.

It absolutely HAS to have a gearbox service carried out at 40,000 miles.

Miss this and failure is highly likely to ensue - cost £5000 for a replacement.

Service at 40,000 is for wet version, oil & filter change.

feedback and some great advice on buying a yeti, Now i am a little confused as to what a fixed yeti is and how

will i know how to avoid these ,Plus how will i know the difference from a wet clutch DSG and a dry one .

7 speed DQ200 on the petrol 1.2 TSI.

The Diesels you are looking at have the 6 speed.

The "fix" is VW/Skodas attempt to make all pre 2015 Euro 6 cars give true emission results on a rolling road test.

A number of those whose cars were done consider the car was adversley affected and there is no easy way back. Reports of failing exhausts egr valves, throttle bodies etc. All expensive repairs and possibly will fail again later.

The update wss voluntary but many drivers were conned into thinking it was a safety upgrade. I would be looking for a car which hasnt had this done. All cars through Skoda dealers will have had the fix.

I paid NOK 1.000,- extra to have the DSG/6 box flushed instead of just an oilchange.
