Yeti First Service - Confusion

Featured Replies

I picked up my new 1.2 DSG Yeti in Jan 2017 and have now put 9200 miles on the clock, now I get a warning on start up, Oil service in 100 miles, ok so it needs a service. Checks the Skoda website and there are 2 service options, Fixed 12mths / 10k miles whichever comes sooner or variable service, so does some digging regarding the variable service and in almost all cases the first service on variable regime is not due until at least 15k miles / 2 years. So I ring Skoda UK and they are no help what so ever, they just say the computer tells the car when the service is due, so I say its on a variable service then, to which they reply for the light to come on so soon its probably fixed servicing, but its not hit the mileage for a fixed service I reply, yes the computer tells it when. aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrr. Ok phones local dealer, my light has come on early, both before the mileage and time 10k miles or 1 year, reply from dealer, Yes no problem it can be ignored just bring it in when you get to 1 year, so now I can ignore what the car is telling me, so why have the mileage tracker? Anyhow still unhappy with the answer I calls into another dealer on the way home from work, this time I am asked the reg number, they put this in the computer and im told I am on flexible servicing and should not be having my first service until around 15k miles / 18 months, and told that the supplying dealer as set it up incorrectly on time / distance, this sounds better. Calls supplying dealer back and told to bring the car in and they will reset the service indicator and the car should keep going for another 6 months or so until needing the first service.

So a poor first experience with Skoda service department and Skoda customer service, bit of a run around but at least its looking to be sorted, as its a lease vehicle I could of ended up having to pay out for 2 services when only the one is required as the computer says the 2nd service oil / inspection is due in 8200 miles or 1 year.........

Yours would not be the first to request a service early due to the dealer not setting it up correctly.
On the paper label in the left side of boot floor under the carpet there will be a code to say what service regime it is on so they should be able to tell you that.

It took the dealer less than 10 minutes to connect to my car and reset to variable service whilst I waited.

The cars are built and supplied to the dealer on variable but they routinely change them to fixed. This suits most low mileage buyers and lease deals including maintenance.

I said I wanted it on variable due to my 18k a year use but they changed it anyway to fixed; hence the visit to the dealer to reset.

If it is saying it needs a service, altering to variable is not an issue and the information display in the maxidot then gives a service due at about 18.6k

And it is not one year on variable, but about 2 years or 18.6k miles depending on use.

Depending on how long you plan to keep your Yeti you might want to reconsider oil change intervals. Changing oil at 1 year or 10,000 miles is probably the best investment you can make in protecting your engine and ensuring trouble free motoring.

What exactly is the message saying? Along the lines of 'service due now' ?

Because it could be that the car was setup and PDI'd during December last year, before you took delivery in January. It should really be setup as soon to customer pickup as possible, but as said - it wouldn't be the first time!

As said there's the code listed on the production sticker underneath the boot floor, for whether it's been set to fixed or variable servicing.

The delivery to the Dealership and the PDI was before the first registration, so if the Transit miles were reset and it put to Fixed Servicing rather than the Variable it left the factory with the setting.

9,400 miles / 372 days fixed servicing.   But there was Long Life oil in for Variable Servicing. & the Servicing can be Variable / flexible.

http://volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/regimes

Demonstrators and cars going on a Service Plan are usually put on Fixed, and ones that Dealerships want the Customer to stump up money after a year even if the customer might want Variable Servicing.

If it is on Fixed Servicing as well to get a Service / Oil & Filter changed and ask for Fixed Servicing or Variable for the next time.

This is such a common issue that just keeps being asked about that it is surprising Skoda Main Dealership Service Staff keep never knowing much about anything.

PS

Main Dealership employees should not be resetting service indicators and not servicing.

If the Dealership or another made the error of resetting to Fixed, then that is going to be for them to cover the cost of Servicing the vehicle

and then resetting the Service Indicator.

That is the only way the Dealer Principal learns to get the staff trained and not hitting customers in the pockets for Dealership profits.

To update this topic, I took my vehicle into the main dealer today with 9600 on the clock and Maxidot "Oil Service Due", explained to girl at service desk as per my original post, she took my keys and said she would take a look and may need a tech, however she returned 5 mins later and said all done, see you in about 8 months / 6k miles for the variable service, when I got home and checked the MaxiDot now says oil service 366 days / 16500 miles and then below that Inspection in 355 days / 16800 miles.

Not sure what she did, but she only took my keys and was gone for less than 5 mins, hope it will now be ok as not really sure if I am now on varable servicing or she has just cleared the service notifcation.

Its a lease vehicle so want to make sure everything is in order, But I guess if the main dealer are making these changes as the so called experts Im in the clear.

So now all set wrong as they just reset to Variable.

The first service is actually due in 12 months or 6,000 miles as she said.  (A reminder sticker should have been applied.)

Not as they set the Service Indicator.

Naughty of them.

Get that in writing from them for the cars record.  Or maybe just do not bother as it is a lease car.

It does make a joke of cars at auction / forecourt with Full Main Dealer Service History / Ex Management etc.
