Coolant over and under temperature lights on

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have a 62 reg roomster 1.6tdi.

The blue coolant under temperature light is working normally but on the odd occasions, 30 seconds after morning start up the red over temperature light also flashes and stays on for the duration of the journey

I'm assuming that the sensor is at fault. Can anyone give me an idea of its location and there thoughts of any other fault that could cause this scenario

Thanks

Just to add , no dtc's are stored after reading with vcds

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have a vague recollection of a similar problem reported in the Fabia section some time ago.

IIRC, it was caused by a faulty coolant level sensor- but I cannot be certain.

Try a search in the Fabia 2 section.  Good luck!

@Marlin32 - I'm pretty sure this is a faulty coolant level sensor. To confirm, drive about 20s after the warning sounds, stop and switch off, count "one elephant, two elephant,... ten elephant" then restart and the warning should be cleared.

The fix is either to clean the 2 metal prongs under the filler cap (engine cold) if the filler/expansion bottle is a visible prongs type, or replace the bottle if it's an invisible prongs type.
