Kodiaq Manual Gearbox

Featured Replies

Pick up my car in a couple of weeks. Does anyone out there know if the manual gearbox is a separate unit to the engine with it's own lubrication system.

I am aware the DSG unit has sensitive issues with regards to service intervals and oil types. Just wondering if its a lot simpler with the manual version.

VAG calls the oil in the 6SP manual a "lifetime" fluid and there is nothing about changing it on service schedules (unlike the DSG). I doubt the Kodiaq is any different.

The problem then becomes this: who wants to define "lifetime"?

The best I heard was that this is defined as between 8-10 years and/or 100,000 miles. Others have said "if the gearbox stiffens up" - which is probably pretty valid as well.

Bottom line is that the DSG's are great if the maintenance/oil change routine is followed but it is  "a lot simpler with the manual version"  (it is a lot simpler gearbox - we have to be the robot that does the shifting!).

Thanks for the info.  Just got to see if they will check the level in the gearbox is correct on the PDI.  I've heard of under filled/overfilled from the factory with other manufacturers.

Can pretty much guarantee you it won't be part of the PDI process.

I had my Octavia Scouts manual gearbox fluid changed with genuine VAG stuff last year. Noticed a big improvement in change quality. Car was 7 years old but only 30k miles.
