What VCDS like software for ELM327

Featured Replies

I had an old cheapo USB cable, then later a bluetooth version and these worked fine.

The Bluetooth one stopped working, so I purchased another based on the ELM327.  The problem is that while I can find software that will speak to it, they all only seem to speak to ECU, not the rest of the systems, and they can only read fault codes and clear.

Is there any cheap, preferable free software for phone or Windows that anyone can recommend that will speak with these devices and read all systems like VCDS and also allow reading of the various value from the ECU when running?

Regards

Tom

Not sure about free, but I've got OBD Eleven https://obdeleven.com/en/ and it's very good. My bluetooth adapter is currently hiding from me though....

I also tried Torque Pro with the ELM327 but it didn't seem very keen on talking to my car. It wouldn't register any fault codes when fault lights were on.

Does it need to be the pro version of OBD Eleven or will the standard do?

I'm specifically looking at ABS issues at the moment, but all system would be good.

I bought the pro. I think it allows you to edit code etc.

You could also look at the Carista app which will interrogate all of the car's systems. You do not have to use their interface as I use it with a generic one.

Carista was looking good, until I found out that the anything other than basic ECU diagnostics is $40 a year?

OBDeleven, looking on their site the standard comes with 100 credits, what are the credits for?

OK, Credits are for add on app purchases.

OBDeleven looks the better product as there is no limit on how you use it once you've purchased.

Carista I can get delivered tomorrow from Amazon, but has the daft licencing model.

Did anyone try OBDeleven with an older Roomster? Can the cheapest version of it read and clear airbag error codes? (Generic ELM with some random apps can't)

I'd expect VCDS Lite, the freeware version, to work on a 2006 Roomster, and to do those things, if you have a suitable KKL cable and a laptop to put the software on. Not sure about OBD11, sorry.

I have a VGate ELM327-based dongle (WiFi), and use "Car Scanner OBD" with it on both iOS and Android (on a ChromeBook Tablet). I saw the latest version even does some coding but comes with so many warnings that I haven't yet dared to experiment with it.
