Pre Cat Lambda Sensor

Hi all, 

 

I just found this fault code 

 

17586 - Linear O2 Sensor: Pump Current: Open Circuit  P1178 

 

Total novice here, is this pre cat lambda sensor? 

If so ..where the hell is it in the car? Is it under the bonnet in the engine bay? In the manifold? Or underneath the car or on the exhaust. 

 

I have an oxygen sensor socket already and would like to change it myself. 

 

My car is a 53 Skoda Fabia Mk1 1.4 16 V automatic AUA 75 bhp 

 

any help would be appreciated.

In cat/manifold facing at a not-very-accessible angle. May not get a lambda socket on it, maybe a 22mm open-ended spanner instead.

Do it with warm, but not hot engine. Exhaust heatshield off first, then disconnect the plug down at the bracket on the front of the gearbox, then remove sensor.

Where have you bought the sensor from, and what part number?

Haven't bought one yet.  Got burned buying before hand. I want to remove it and match the part properly. We have a second car so I don't mind if it's out of commission while I fix the sensor. Thank you again.

Check carefully for busted wires at the connector entry (loom wires of the mating connector too) and where the wires enter the sensor, before buying anything; might be a cheap/easy fix if it's just a wire break.

Great point. I have a multimeter and will check the old sensor for resistance. Give a visual for broken or popped out wires. Might save me some money. Appreciate the advice.

If you can't find any wiring problems, I think you'll find you want part number 030906262K, one of the many item 12 options on this page. PR-G0E means 4-speed automatic transmission. Not really sure why it differs from the manual transmission version, maybe cable length, connector position differs?
