Hatch roof lining removal

Featured Replies

Has anyone done or know of how to safely remove the roof lining?

I have found the source of my bothersome roof rattle but needs major intervention.

Took me all of 10 mins to find. Its just going to be a ballache to get to.

If only they had built the car a little better.

And the source was??

I cannot actually see if but can replicate the noise repeatedly.

But headlining removal is a big job hence to know if anyone has done this.

I've not done a Superb, but it usually means removing A, B and C post trims, sun visors, grab handles, roof modules etc to drop it down.

Getting it out of the car can be very difficult sometimes too, occasionally necessitating the removal of the windscreen.

Not a simple and certainly not a quick job on modern cars.

Is the car not still covered by warranty? Sounds like a big job to me.

The Superb 3 came out in 2015 so should still have the remainder of the warranty even if it was an early example.

It is under warranty so it is madness to do this personally. Believe me i dont wish to. I could just put up with it but then for £25k i think no it should not be like this.

Dealers have had 3 attempts now to rectify this. Each time the attempts have failed and in the last case made matters worse. Do i keep allowing dealers to rectify this in hope one day they will (at my expense of wasted time).

Surely after 3 attempts i do not have to continue to follow this course?

I had issues with two VW cars in 1999/2000 that took a lot of perseverance to get sorted. Swapped dealers looking at the problem in the end.

If this was my car I'd be rejecting it.

But trying a different dealers can make a difference. I managed to place an item (disabled Blue Badge of a relative) on the ashtray cover of my Superb and it disappeared into the central console. Local dealer would not take a look and basically said it would be at least £200 and probably more. But they needed to get it booked in.... Took it to another dealer (further away) because they said they'd take a look. They did and sorted it... for free. I gave a donation to their charity instead and will get the car serviced there despite it being much further away.

Nail, head, hit. If my dentist couldn't cure my toothache, I wouldn't resolve it by pulling my own tooth out. (A bit extreme I know, but the principle is the same).

In my view it's SUK's problem as they supply the warranty. I'd be speaking to them about it, and making it clear the car is going to every dealer in the country at their expense until the problem is sorted. Re your lost time, wasn't there a guy who managed to charge a supplier (not car-related as I recall) for the time he spent getting a problem rectified? It's a stretch, but it might be worth mentioning - in a non-threatening way of course ;-) - to SUK when you speak to them.

Good luck and hope you get it sorted soon. Let us know how you get on.

I will push for like for like replacement. Failing this refund.

Thankfully i used a private loan to mostly fund this car so if i get nowhere i can write to the loan company who may assist in resolution.

Car rejection knocked back (as expected was a long shot) but SUK dont wish to know and the dealer advises me that if the entire roof trim is removed and the fault is not a manufacturing defect i will be liable for the cost of the work. My car is under warranty. Something is clearly not right due to the rattle when the roof is open or tilted yet even SUK repeat as per the dealer. So sort of a dilemma. Skoda appear to be choosy over the terms of the warranty.

Any suggestions?

This will be going via motorcodes as im quite offended by the brands lack of help.

This has cost them any chance of further business from me. I feel my £25 k has been wasted with this brand and indeed johnsons skoda Birmingham.

Car in the dealer for a day and problems with the roof solved. Solved for about 5 miles until the rattle returned as did the creaking roof.

So 3 attempts to fix by 2 different dealers what next??

@Whenwillilearn, I have skoda drawings on how to remove ceiling interior panels. If you want, send me a PM and I can make a picture of them.

Gona soon do the same work so I could sound deaden the roof.

Hey Alf.onso,

did you do any roof work? Do you still have the headlining drawings for disassembly?

I ask as I need to get in to replace the antenna on my superb combo 66 plate.

Any help appreciated !
