Diesel refuelling

Featured Replies

Happy New Year everyone!

Every time I go to fill up with diesel i have to remove the key from the ignition and open the central locking before the fuel flap will open.

Is this normal? Bit of a pain, tried the central locking button on door but that doesn't work

When you press unlock once it only opens the drivers door and not the rest or boot, unsure if this is also linked with fuel cap ???. Is it possible the fuel cap is just sticking and then operating the unlock etc it eventually opens ( common issue I think as a few have reported)  and may just need lubricated

Pressing the unlock button once opens all of the doors and the boot for me. It even unlocked the filler flap when it worked (without having to hold my hand on it).

Check in your maxi dot as it can be changed there to either drivers or all doors to open on the first click. I presume all doors will include the fuel flap as well.

Checked mine earlier, one click opens drivers door and the fuel flap. Other doors still locked

Mine can be set to drivers door, all drivers side doors or all 4 doors via the maxidot. Must check what effect it has on the fuel flap though - AFAIK it unlocks the fuel flap no mattter what the setting.

After ride stop the car, but keep the engine still running.

If passanger exits the car and tries to open the boot, he cannot. Until driver opens his door.

I guess the same goes for fuel flap. So, some voodoo is going on all the time.

As discussed there are two possible causes:

1) The car is set up to not unlock the fuel filler flap on the first press of the remote, it needs a second press of the unlock button.

2) The fuel filler flap release mechanism is failing / sticking - a relatively common problem on the Superb.

Try spraying some lubricant onto the plunger mechanism.

You might find as things get worse your current method of unlocking the already unlocked car using the remote also stops working. Not nice when you are low on fuel!

Sometimes applying light pressure on the fuel flap itself at the same time the car is unlocked helps to release the mechanism.

In terms of cause no.1 above the manual doesn't really help either, the locking/unlocking section only makes reference to the doors and boot lid.

The refueling section is also absent of information relating to the locking of the fuel filler flap...

Had a look at maxidot today, cannot see any option that would affect the fuel filler opening, it is set for all doors currently. I will try some wd40 on the lock to see if that makes any difference.

To clarify, I want the filler to open using the central locking button on the door handle, not the key, which I thought would be the norm, like any other car I've owned.

In Manual for a 2012 FROM HERE
"The filler flap is automatically unlocked or locked with the central locking."
