Side light bulb colour

Featured Replies

Hi guys

just a quick enquiry to see if I’m going mental. My car is a 62 plate L&K estate which I have had since new but it is currently getting repaired following a disagreement with a wall in the snow a few weeks ago. But when I was taking to the garage today they said they found blue bulbs in the side lights? Is this normal as I have no memory of ever changing any bulbs

Unless it is having it's mot, what are they bothered about.

Don’t know unless one was broken and they ordered clear without looking ???

They shouldn't be blue, you can actually just see the blue W5W bulb in your picture.

Have you had the car from new?

Skoda do actually fit blue W5W sidelight bulbs, but only to the MkII FL Octavia vRS where the bulbs are actually redundant (used simply to fill the holes, the sidelights role is performed by a separate row of LED's, but the regular Octavia headlight is used).

These are the colour of the factory fitted bulbs on my 2011 Superb, clear glass...

My 2013 Superb came from factory with blue tinted parking light bulbs.  In Victoria, 'straya we don't have regular MOT's so it's not an issue for us.

Here's an image with what appears to be a blue bulb too.

I don't think the blue tint will make the output too blue...

Not relevant to this post, but just for anyone reading in the future,

Skoda also fitted Dummy Blue Bulbs in the Headlights of Mk2 Fabia vRS, as the Sidelights were the DRL Units dimmed.

(MOT Testers have been known to fail cars because the Sidelights were not working and even gone on to try fitting new bulbs.)

^^^ Dippy mot testers then for if they switched the lights on to side light position they would have seen some lights come on, wouldn't they.

2+2= er?

They look white. They're there to match the xenons. I had one go and replaced the pair. The blue tinted ones were more than 8 times the price, both being Osram bulbs and the only difference is the tint on the bulbs.

Mine are also blue from the factory. one has failed and is now black.

I can not get the holder out though to change it, do they pull or twist and pull?

ahhh I found this
