Mysterious Rattle in boot - Octavia Estate

Featured Replies

Hi.

I have a rattling noise that appears to come from the rear passenger side on my Mk2 Octavia estate. At first I thought it was coming from the spare wheel well, so emptied that and the rattle was still there. Then I got someone to sit in the back seat to try to pinpoint the source. He thought it was coming from behind the trim in the area of the CD changer. Checked this and removed loose CD covers - the changer itself seemed solidly fixed but still the rattle continues.

Then I remembered last summer, a guy trying (unsuccessfully) to fix my reversing sensors. I believe he was working in this area replacing the sensors controller, I'm thinking maybe he has not mounted it properly/left a tool or something in there. I need to check this out both so far I have not been able to remove the trim between the CD unit and the wheel arch. Can anybody help me with the trim removal please. Or has any members had similar issues.

PS: I also noticed that I am missing a small nylon/plastic part from the underside of the tailgate. Not sure what it's called or its purpose but I want to replace it anyway - photo attached.

Thanks in advance :tongueout:

Rear seat bolster between seat and door, these do slip down of it's hook and rattle. Push in and push up firm. Found this out after a year of searching for a strange rattle at rear of car. Worth a try. Quite common.

@ towserdog

the rubber thing is:

6Q6 827 499 C stop buffer, adjustable
for rear lid
  2 pieces

Cheers Kristen, I'm not quite sure what a rear seat bolster is or what it's function is but I'll have a look
