ECU remap implies also DSG remap?

Featured Replies

Just wondering...i remapped mine from 140 to 170 and the DSG behaves certainly different, esp in 5th gear where it barely uses it and jumps straight to 6th.

Also sometimes feels like it doesn't really find the right balance switching back & forth between 1st/2nd and 3rd when driving slowly in the city.

I got used to it, no big deal, but would a DSG sw update from the 170 engine have any effect?

A DSG remap would be a separate thing to an engine remap, so it's unlikely that your DSG was remapped as well as the engine. That being said, you should confirm this with the tuner you used.

However the DSG and engine communicate closely during normal operation as the two systems depend on working closely together to be at their best. It's possible that the part of the engine map that handles this communication on the engine side may have been modified by your tuner and the DSG software is now getting bad data on how to behave and is giving the shifting behaviour you describe.

As to your question about the DSG map from the 170 model, it may not be any better than what you have since the 170 is a different engine to the 140 (bigger turbo and injectors, different map) so a remapped 140 running at 170 bhp is likely to behave differently to a stock 170.

If this were me my first step would be to go back to the tuner and have a chat with them about the tune, and whether they have experience in tuning DSG equipped cars.

only engine remap was done, nothing changed on the DSG. I was hoping that with the 170 DSG profile, it would handle the new power/torque curves (and gear switching points?) better than default 140 "settings".

tuning was done by Upsolute.com

edit: i just found something on their german forum:

"Bezüglich des DSG ist für das Tuning keine extra Anpassung nötig aber wir bieten eine eigenständige Optimierung des DSG an, diese bringt eine 20%ige Verbesserung des Schaltmoments"

meaning: "reg. DSG, there is no need for extra settings when tuning the engine, but we have a standalone DSG optimization feature that brings a 20% improvement in switching points"

It costs extra, but i might as well have a look and ask them...

on 2nd thought...can it be that my flywheel / clutch is showing signs of fatigue? :)
