PCP Final Payment woes. Any advice?

Featured Replies

Morning all!

Quick question about PCPs - I looked at our paper work and couldn't find anything about a balloon payment/guaranteed final value which was odd and we're definitely on a PCP according to the dealership. We owe £5800 on our current 14 plate 1.6tdi  Fabby Scout currently and they just offered us £4800!  Just to put you in the picture - it was putting it against an older 15 plate Fabby estate SE L up at £9,650.  I'm genuinely gob-smacked about the deficit.  This will be our 6th car with VW over the years  [£2000 down originally] and last year's 1.2tsi Fabia Scout had similar miles [15000 a year] on it when we returned it and it still carried a £900 deposit on to our current car!  I can't help but think that the 1.6 tdi debacle has made my car worth less..... Tamping frankly. I can still walk away under VT as we've paid more than 50% [4 week process apparently?] but it stinks.  Any suggestions as to what I might be able to do from here?  Really want the 15 plate estate but am loathe to walk away and lose money unless they can sweeten the deal on the new car.....

Thanks in advance guys and gals.

Si.

The one you want to go put on finance looks over priced to me.

?

Have you looked at a new Mk3?

There is a post there now about New cheaper than used.

Skoda Approved Used Cars and just Skoda Used cars in general are over priced.

Buyers market as always, but especially this first quarter this year.

Dealerships have a 'wish and a dream asking price' trying to punt used cars, and too many coming back on finance have cost VW Group / Dealerships too much money

That is the issue with high RRP's and cheap Finance deals and constant offers.

Thanks for your reply AwaoffSki.  Appreciate the time taken.  :)

It's the cheapest May 15 SE L Estate in the country in terms of used Skoda stock - great spec, right colour and tidy miles at 22000.

We have a £180 monthly limit and a new Fabia base model even with the current £2000 offering from Skoda would still require a £1500 deposit from us which we don't have.  We normally rely around a £1000 in the cars we've changed in and found ex-demo or pre-reg with a reasonable spec.  Really hacked off at the moment with Skoda.  I either walk away under VT as have paid more than the required amount or buy the bloody thing myself.  Which frankly, I don't want to do as [even though I haven't had the fix applied and won't do] I've lost a little faith in the engine hearing all the horror stories.  :(

How much can dealerships be pushed I guess?  Happily sign up for the new [oldish!] car if they were to drop the poxy roadside assist and throw in something useful like tyres or next 2 services.  Hmmm.  I'm also wondering what that engine is like - it's the 1.4tdi.  We've the old PD version in the past in a Polo which snapped it's own oil pump chain.  :(

I'd do the VT and then setup a new agreement on the 15 plate estate.

Raker,

for Mk3 1.4TDI look at the pinned thread top of Fabia Mk3 section.

Water pump failures and a service campaign, or Skoda Secret Service campaign to replace the Coolant with Special Coolant as after decades of building cars

seemingly the Coolant is to blame, not the Water Pump or VW Group.

Maybe ones to avoid, not a keeper or future classic, just the same old VW Issue. Poor components.

Dealership Salespeople will never of heard of issues no doubt!  Or "only a small number involved....all sorted!"

Crikey.  It's not looking good for a continuing Skoda relationship frankly.  That's appalling!?  Is it the same 1.4tdi that they're peddling in the brand new motors then?  With the same problem?  Fecking ridiculous.....  Even if the one I'm looking at has been done, there's every possibility it could happen again?!

My penny worth.

Avoid the 1.4TDI,  avoid the Euro 6 1.2TSI that Skoda / VW have discontinued, so the 1.2TSI Skoda Dealers are desperate to shift.

Road test a 1.0 TSI engine car, Skoda Fabia Estate or Rapid  Spaceback or SEAT Toledo and see what you think.

Even an Ibiza ST if big enough rear.

Crackers IMO.

Agree.  Not being bitten twice but a 1.4tdi, and we had the 1.2 TSI in the last Scout and it was poor.  Feeling the 1.0TSI to be fair.  Be out in a 6 speed one although not driving and seen that the fuel economy is good too.

Thanks for the penny's worth mate.  ;)

The other option is to keep the 1.6tdi?  We've not had the fix.  Are they lemons anyway?  Do people still suffer badly without the emissions fix?

Best idea.

Keep away from Dealership Workshops, even signing the 'Do not plug in and ruin my car'  does not mean it can not happen.

Just a thought, is this another use for these OBD Port blockers/locks, ie the secure metal ones with a key to lock them?  I have one of them fitted to my S4 for security, but I plan on leaving it on for the next MOT.
