Service interval changed after 1st service

Featured Replies

My 150TDi SE Business was on a variable service regime and has just been in for it's first service at 2 yrs / 16.5k miles.

After the service I checked the service indicator out of curiosity to see when the next service was due and was surprised to see that the next oil service was due in 9400 miles / 365 days, with the next inspection at 20,000 miles / 365 days.

I've had the car since new and it started showing the oil service details after a few hundred miles so I'd expected the next service to be in another 2 years.

I think the dealer has changed the service interval to be fixed rather than variable but has anyone else here found that after their 1st service?

As it's lease car and going back about the same time as it's showing the next service as due I don't really want to have it serviced a few days before I hand it back :o

It is quite common, though what oil did they use on the service as there is I believe a difference in the long life compared to the 10k mile service. As long as They have used the variable service oil then just get the dealer to correctly re-set it.

Wait a few days and see if the milage increases.  My Superb took a good few hundred miles, possibly more for the oil change service to get around the 19k mark.

If not then, yes, they may have changed you from a variable to fixed servicing regime.

No, I think it must be on fixed because its showing 365 days instead of 2 years. IIRC it will show " --- " for the first few days before it spits out its estimate, which afaik starts at the high end mileage wise.

IF the services are "free" as part of your finance package then they will be fixed interval type services (and the first one should have been done at 10k/1yr)

Otherwise, the cynic in me thinks it is common because

A: they get the car in twice as often so make twice as much and can upsell twice as often.

B: they can use cheaper (hopefully at least 505.01) oil

C: They don't have to bother plugging in the diagnostics and just reset it via the infotainment.

D: Most customers don't notice/know/care.

Phone up straight away and complain, and get it reset. Seek assurances about the correct oil. If its the wrong oil, the sensor will detect and start to ramp down the miles fairly quickly so get back to them and demand they change it for the right oil.

Of course they may want to charge you extra for their "mistake", don't let them get away with it. Report to Skoda UK if they are less than perfect.

They use the same oil regardless.

Bally, where was your car, Henrys, Arnold Clark or Park ?

If you want the Next Service & Oil / Filter change to be a Flexible / Variable service tell them to sort it out.

If the Service Desk Staff say they can not just correct the Service Indicator then tell them. Do another Oil / Filter change and reset,

their error, their expense,  they need to learn.

It is their job 5-6 days a week....

I think it is fairly common. Same happened to me after 1st service,  but I complained and they set it back to variable. As said, it is just a con to get you into the garage spending money more often.

I would have thought that if you are only doing a little over 8K miles per year yearly services would be more appropriate?

Is it your car or a lease?

Thanks All.

Think I'll go back to the dealer and ask them to sort it out.

As I said in my original post it's a lease car and it goes back about 8th Jan next year but with the current service interval the indicator will come on by the 5th at the latest.

@AwaOffSki, it was Parks in Hamilton who did the service. I did ask them to look at why the climate control only blows out hot air above 26 degrees but that seemed to be beyond them :wondering:

Ah man. Holy smoke!

Not their Gold or Platinum Service offer?.    (Check a recent thread on Briskoda from another member that had that 'Amazing offer & accepted')

So check that invoice very closely.

No better there than when Gordon is a moron stalked the showroom.

I suppose if all else fails you could always reset it yourself, via settings menu.

It is good when as simple as that,  sit in drivers seat with key and push the correct buttons.  Not on this superb though.

Will check the invoice when I get home but didn't ask for a specific offer when I phoned up to book it in, just that it needed it's first service.

Will see how I get on when I call tomorrow :swear:
