Upcoming service question, and how often should spark plugs be changed?

Featured Replies

I have a 2014 Octavia VRS TSI which is dues for it's 2nd service since it's been out of warranty and has 33,000 mile on the clock.

I'm assuming the spark plugs are long life, but wondered how often they should be changed, or is it a case of waiting until the ECU flags up a mis-fire on one of the cylinders until you change them?

Secondly, given the vehicles age and mileage, would should I be asking my local independent garage to do in the service? They normally offer a small service or a large service, I can't remember what each entails, but I know the large service includes an engine service.

Is there a service schedule anywhere that shows you how often certain things should be changed?

Think they are due on the 4th/40k service. Mine had a major done last year at 26k which was it's 4th and the plugs were changed, along with pollen + air filters + standard oil + filter. As for taking it elsewhere, I'm out of warranty now and still dealer servicing. From what I've seen dealer services aren't much more expensive then many indy garages and I'd like to keep the dealer service history going. The other element is that despite being out of warranty, it may be possible to get some goodwill from Skoda on a major component failure <6 years/60k, but only if it has been fully dealer serviced, on schedule.

Thanks, it's already had one service via an independent, so keeping up the Skoda history isn't really an option now. I paid my independent £119 for a service (and MOT) last year, which I believe was a fair bit cheaper than the dealer were quoting.

I think I'll also need new rear discs and pads (they're rusty with uneven wear) in this service, which will likely be a fair bit cheaper at an independent that the dealer

Yeah stuff like that is best done outside of dealer network and should be noticeably cheaper.

As ahenners said it's 4 years or 60000km (~37000 miles). You're close to that now so if you're going to go over that before your next service I'd be inclined to get them changed now, although it shouldn't cause much of a  a problem if you did decide to wait until next service.

There is a workshop service/maintenance manual that has all the intervals in. I would share it but I lost the saved copy as my laptop broke, and only have a printed version left...I'm sure someone on here would have a link to it though...
