Superb Estate Sportline 190 PS DSG

Featured Replies

Evening all, we’re a long-term Škoda-owning family (2 x Superb, 3 Citigos and possibly another one being ordered soon) and we’re looking at returning to the fold after three years away driving a Mercedes Benz E-Class Estate. It’s been a positive experience, perhaps with the exception of the service bills. But the lease is up in March and so all options are being explored.

Test drove a Karoq yesterday but didn’t like the ride quality. Too top heavy and bouncy, guess we’re not used to that type of car. Then we took out a 10-month old Superb Estate in Sportline trim and fitted with the 190PS engine and the DSG ‘box.  We’ve had two Superb estates before, both with the same DSG ‘box and the 170 PS engine.

Very tempted with the car but I’m interested in some real world experience in terms of service costs, tyre wear and fuel economy.

Additionally I’d love to hear from owners of identical cars in terms of any likes, dislikes and potential technical gremlins.

Not sure yet on a nearly new car or a new. The local dealer says that Škoda are offering £4,000 off plus they themselves have over-ordered and have a large stock, so they are also knocking an extra £4,000 off to shift the stock. The question will be if they have a diesel auto estate available in a colour that we like such as white, business grey or possibly red.

Thanks in advance

Erich

Welcome

I have a 190 DSG L&K, expect a maximum of 50MPG and you won’t be far wrong, still on my original tyres @37K miles (but I do run winters as well so realistically they have done half that mileage.

Variable service £220 ish,

DSG oil change £200 every 40K miles

Bought a MY 17 Sportline 190 DSG 4 months ago, changing from a Superb MkII 150 PS DSG 4x4

 My impressions:

  • The EU6 emissions standard on the 190 diesel produces a 'lag' on acceleration at certain low speeds (before turbo kicks in).  This produces an odd sensation of pressing the accelerator and nothing much happening before a sudden woosh of power. You can re-code the throttle pedal to give you an Audi throttle setup which is more responsive. I may now be adapting to the car but after 5000 miles I hardly notice the lag.
  • I find the 190 engine rough accelerating at low speeds with some vibration through the body. I'm still trying to figure out what causes this.
  • The torque on the front wheels can be fierce and wheel spin in the damp from a standing start in two wheel drive is common if you have Pirelli P7s fitted as factory standard - worth checking. These are not a great tyre.
  • 19" wheels and lower suspension can make driving over poor surfaces bumpy, but generally ride is good.
  • The 190 DSG is a very responsive engine and is well matched to the box. I haven't done any really long runs, but getting around 49mpg - drops to low 40s on a city/mixed run.  My former 2.0 150PS DSG 4x4 would return around 55 on a long run on A and B roads.
  • Inside the car is very easy to live with. Great sport seats and the Columbus system (I have 8" new ones have 9.2") is very good. Map updates now a free download twice a year.

The Sportline had the right mix of things I wanted without adding to extras and I got what I considered a good deal.

Its a good looking car and you will know in terms of room its well up to the E Class. My neighbour had all but signed for a Lexus, but has backed off the deal and is looking hard at a Superb after seeing  mine.

If you are buying new you will get 2 years servicing for £249. There was an offer on this with dealers for a while and I picked up 2 yrs servicing for £137. I had a Merc before my last Skoda and the running costs dropped dramatically.

I like the Sportline a lot, but if I were doing it all again I think I would opt for the 220 TSI or the 150 PS DSG 4x4, the latter by all accounts is just as powerful and doesn't seem to suffer from the lag issue mentioned just as much. Personally I do see quite a bit of difference in the 150 and 190 engines. Bear in mind there is a £2k premium for the 190 PS over the 150PS

If you do get a Sportline put on a set of mudflats. At first glance you wouldn't think the car needed them, but they do make a difference to the spray thrown up  and are hardly noticeable. Squeeze them into the deal.

£8k off list , if you get it all, for a new car is very good. I got mine at 3 months old and managed a shade over 7k off list.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks guys, much appreciated :)

Which dealer has this surplus stock and offering 8k off??

Winchester Motor Group.

They offered me £7k off an L&K estate before we even sat down to talk turkey.

After almost 1 year ownership of my Superb Sportline hatch I'm drawing the conclusion that it's the best car I've had to date.  The Sportline trim is really nice IME and just adds a little bit extra to an all-round good package.  I think if a Sportline wasn't available then I probably wouldn't have got a Superb.

Business Grey and Corrida red look pretty damn nice as they have a nice contrast with the gloss black trim.  I have business grey myself.

Can't comment on ownership of the 190 TDI as I have the 150 TDI (manual).  No major issues to date.  Things I will mention on my next service though; my drivers window switch has a different feel (not as positive) to the passenger side and 'one-touch' opening seems a bit hit and miss, I think it's a dodgy switch.  I've also started to experience the same issue others have wherein the self leveling xenons don't rise up to the correct level at start up and just light up the area in front of the fogs, an engine restart cures this and I personally think it's related to cold weather.   I've had no issues with trim etc and everything is still tight and feels as good as the day I picked it up.

There's lots of black in the interior but it doesn't seem an issue as the it's so airy with plenty of room.  I'm not a huge fan of the faux carbon dash trim but It's not exactly pig ugly.  The Sportline seats are excellent; firm but supportive in all the right places; one of my favorite bits of the car.

I love the car, in fact I'm thinking of changing it for the same spec/colour but with a petrol engine as my circumstances and need for economy have changed since I took delivery.

Hope you find a car you like and get a good deal, don't forget to post some pics *when* you pick her up. :)
