Strip boot for wheel arche

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2014 vrs and ordered a noise killer kit.

I succesfully did the hood+cargo compartment.

I now need to strip the trunk to acès the wheel arche. Does anyone know how to do it and provide DIY?

I can't find any complete info.

Thanks

Yes, I’ve done it.

You don’t say if it’s Estate or Hatch but mine is an Estate so I will go through how I did mine.

You will need:-

Torx from 15-50

Pliers

Trim prying tools

Flat blade screwdriver

A 10mm socket and your chosen ratchet (I used a 3/4 inch size)

An M10 Spline tool

You may be able to avoid a lot of these steps as you are fitting sound deadening, I removed mine completely but I gather it’s be easier for you just to pull it out of the way, then you won’t need to remove airbags and seatbelts.

Start my removing the bag hook and lashing point Torx fixings, then pry off the trim panel on the D pillar to reveal another Torx, there’s another one to do behind the parcel shelf also. Pry off the lower corner of the trim where the scrivet fixing is. Remove that fixing and undo the large plastic Torx bungs that hold the load lip trim on, then pry the load lip trim off. Then you need to remove the seat back release cable from the trim using the pliers to keep tension in the cable and the screwdriver to get the cable out of the socket. I would say that’d be enough to get at everything.

The next steps would be to remove the lower seatbelt mount to feed through the trim and then get the seat back off to get the trim fully out.

To do that you must remove the seat base by pulling on it and taking it out of the car. Then you must unclip the airbag by removing the 10mm bolt which you should have revealed when you removed the seat base the go to the top and pull it up and then away. Then use the M10 spline tool to undo the seatbelt mount and feed it through the trim. Next fold the seat backs down to reveal the mount bracket, remove the plastic trim and undo the Torx bolt, remove the metal bracket and then pull the seat back up and out to make room to remove the trim and it should be free.

Some of those steps might be in slightly different orders, I did mine a few weeks ago to retrofit the variable boot floor and I had to make it up as I went along. Hope that makes sense to you :)

Thanks @SashaGrace we briefly talked about the process in another similar thread I posted last week!

It’s ok, if there are some extra fixings I’ve forgotten about I’m very sorry. I’m pretty sure that’s everything though.

I like the idea of being able to pull it away without fully taking stuff apart and messing with the seatbelts/airbags. The less I have to meddle with, the less chance it has of breaking! :D

Took my rear door cards off yesterday, broke no door clips, but broke a window switch!

great thanks for the procedure.

It is an estate so good to go

All I need is to acces the rear wheel arches to apply the sound deadening stickers.
