Massive MPG

You might be seeing the benefits of water injection!

That's next on the list.

In a vaguely similar vein I got stuck in traffic for half an hour yesterday around the hilly bits of central Wellington and my fuel economy was reading 48.8 litres/100km - I make that just under 6mpg

PS The IP Beasty Boys are coming, appearing at a rolling road day or meet near you soon

So is that a threat then?

As an aside I can get 999.9 mpg out of mine (when it has an engine) but that's easy to explain - Skoda ECU is not controlling the engine but still sends a signal to the trip computer

I was going to be a lil  and say it's 'cos he overfilled it and the expansion tank was used.

I do about 170 miles in mine before the needle moves off full

Well today I nearly emptied the tank but I did have a moment or two of madness, never the less I managed 483 with 62 Miles still left in the tank before I filled up. The last MPG reading was 55.6 on the comp.

Now, spin it how you like but the you cannot cheat on mileage and that's what I got out of a tank with approx 15% town and 85% Motorway.

Just like to say a massive thank you to Mike at Impossible Performance for all the help he has given me in getting to this stage and a very big thank you for the turbo conversion and that unbelievable map.

Impossible Performance......Got that right.

Sounds very impressive :)

I'd agree with Adrian (for what it's worth :) ) - if you fitted larger injectors at the weekend then the ECU thinks it's putting less fuel in than it actually is. There's a higher flow rate so for a given injector cycle more fuel is injected.

So how do you account for the miles covered per tank full. Can't see that figure being the product of new injectors, well over 500 miles to a tank full. Just surprising given the state of tune of the car, even a bog standard 1.8L with no turbo.

When you started this thread, thought it was a bit tongue in cheek. I agree that the mpg readout can be a bit misleading, but the miles per tank speak for themselves...

Unless you've fitted 13" wheels and you've only actually done 240 miles!:rofl:

I'm really curious to know what you've done now. Economy like that would mean bye bye vRS and hello Blue Cupra with lovely leather!

Impossible have done it again.

I must admit the MPG read out on the comp means nothing because of the new injectors, I know that. It's just the miles I'm able to cover with a dust-bin lid turbo that gets me.

I wonder if the six speed box has anything to do with it...........but then I've checked the mileage against where I've been and it works out.

One assumes Des, that your "dustbin lid"-sized turbo doesn't spool up particularly readily below 3,500 rpm? So lets say you drive like a "Granny" and change up every gear change at 2 to 2½ and max speed is the NSL (under 3K rpm in 6th) then your turbo is hardly doing nowt (particularly as I guess you are still running it in?). So add to this, Mike has mapped the low end of the rev range very progressively and you have super miles to the gallon?

However, if you boot the accelerator, what happens then?

Well we turned the wick up and re-set the comp this evening and floored it through the gears and managed 6 mpg.

Hmm. How about a test drive then? :D That reminds me - will Delcac technical services be available to do a quick VagCom scan in the next couple of weeks? Something on my car is FUBAR :o

Maybe it's just because yours is running leaner than normal?

Of course, anytime.
