4 x 4 tyre wear

Featured Replies

Hello

I have just recently got a 2014 Adventure which has four wheel drive. Do the front tyres wear quicker than the rears. I understand that some drive always goes to the rear, is this the case?

Many thanks in advance.

Welcome.

Why not move the front tyres / wheels to the rear and share the wear and get life out of the tyres. (rears to the front...)

If the front has not good traction there is drive to the rear, not always drive to the rear on good road surfaces and where the front has good traction.

Is your Haldex working OK when rear drive is needed?

Has the Haldex been serviced now @ 3 years?

How many miles has your Yeti done?

Thank you! The car has done 29k. The haldex seems to be working fine. I will have it and the car serviced at 35k ish as I am aware the Haldex needs doing at around 40k.I ask about the tyre wear as the front and rears look to be wearing at the same rate.

The car worked very well up in Argyll in the snow and would have been excellent if it didn't have the Pirellis fitted, really rubbish inn snow and ice conditions!

The DSG is at 40,000 miles, the Haldex is @ 3 years.

This was us in Spain a week ago, got turned around due to trucks stuck in front. Havnt really pushed it at all and seems to stick like brown stuff to a blanket.. thats what I find a bit disconcerting as with a front wheel drive you when you have lost traction, and I am old enough to remember rear wheel drive cars too... .

Pic didnt upload, see what happensDE6F4079-3334-4FBE-BF56-79D2D325A5E1.thumb.jpeg.b883d0e6044b5459ff7c85b6ed6de94c.jpeg

Not that much snow but its a steepish climb and the trucks where going ok but car drivers were overtaking and then slowing down  in front of them causing the truck to slow down or even stop.

We were turned around and decended 7 miles,  only cars but some of them  were down to less then walking pace skidding all over the place foot on brakes, driving close ....I suppose they were looking for the driving on snow app....

The tyres on ours wore pretty evenly. I probably got an extra mm or so left on the rears when I had them replaced but it was only marginal.
