Think my turbo has just let go

Having the absolute worst luck recently :(

 

was as literally just on my way to work, pulled out of my space and drove up the road there was like a pop kind of noise now the turbo (I think) it’s whining it’s tits off, there is no smoke from the exhaust, no oil type residue etc and the car wasn’t making any power what so ever I literally got about 30yds up the road when it happened, if I switch the car off and back on on, it comes in slowly and gets louder. Now when a turbo blows does it smoke like mad? Could this be something else? I’m pretty sure it’s turbo but I really can’t afford these turbo costs, can just the core be changed or do you need to replace the whole lot?

Have you checked all the boost hoses? A pop is often when it blows a hose off.

I did think that but the noise it’s creating which is also coming out of exhaust makes me think turbo and didn’t think Boost pipe would create the siren type noise did you watch the video? 

It does sound like the turbo has popped, whip off the TIP and take a look, it will be obvious.

How abouts do I go about doing that Sepul? Strange as no smoke etc

And can I whip the turbo off and just replace the cartridge to keep costs down? Or will I need an entire unit? £££££

Yes, just replace the CHRA cartridge. Take the inlet pipe off the turbo and look at the impeller, it will be very obvious.

Is it fairly simple to do? And to remove the inlet can that be seen from the bonnet wuickly? It’s tipping it down here or is it wheel arch lining off job? 

Turbo is down the back of the engine, not behind the wheel arch, that's the intercooler. Follow the big pipe from the air filter housing to the back of the engine, where it ends is the the turbo inlet, remove the pipe, take a picture with phone and post here.

Yeah mate I know but I mean in terms of access but you just answered that. In terms of changing the CHRA Cartridge is it relatively straight forward? Remove replace refit? I’ve watched a video or two and looks fairly easy! Probably be more difficult removing the turbo to be honest!!
