From Scout 3 dgs to Superb L&K190dsg 4x4

Featured Replies

Very happy with my 65 reg  Octy 3 Scout dsg, except for boot & general cabin space what with a dog crate and new grandchild imminent. Am seriously looking at a 65 reg Superb 3 combi, L&K 190 dsg. However, coming from a long line of Passat estates (B4/5/6) where I had to fit rear spring assisters to avoid alarming rear end dip when fully loaded and cornering at speed I found the Scout remarkably stable. The reason of course is that along with the VRS it's fitted with the same 4link rear suspension.

The Superb Combi is fitted with DCC but I wondered whether it has the higher spec 4 link suspension or just the beam axle version? What's it like cornering at speed (with vigour!) when the boot is seriously loaded?

Can’t speak for fully-loaded performance as I haven’t taken delivery of mine yet, but all Superbs have the Passat’s independent rear suspension rather than the dreaded beam axle.

I travel to the Alps each year with 4 people in the car, the boot absolutely full and a roofbox. No obvious problems on mountain roads. Inflate the tyres to the maximum recommended, but I guess you will know this.

Thanks for your replies ... yes tyre pressures well known! The issue is on a long corner taken at relative speed for its sharpness, the rear end dips low on the outside and the inside front rises!

My B6 59 reg Passat Estate  had

this problem but no beam axle!

The Scout handles quite differently, no lean & steady as a rock!

Guess I need more specific tech info on the rear suspension design ...
