Passenger wiper stopped working

Featured Replies

It just stopped, it's clicking and trying to move, tried tightening up the bolt on the shaft but it's tight, and noticed the shaft itself doesn't move, so no stripped splines, so I'm guessing somethings come adrift or snapped? Is it the scuttle panel off or is it another way to get to the motor and gubbins?

The scuttle panel will have to come off. Sounds like the linkage has failed. You will need three new scuttle panel fir tree clips as they usually break when removing the panel. A wiper arm puller tool is also a big help.

I think you can get individual linkage parts.

I would guess that one of these short linkages has dropped off the balljoint due to wear...

Ordered clips, a puller, and a pair of upgraded linkages, got a bearing instead of a plastic washer so won't wear out

I think that I read on this forum that even Halfords sell repair clips that allow you to retain an otherwise f'd link to the wiper spindle ball end.  I'd been guessing or suggesting that you check both wiper spindles for stiffness and remove clean relub and reassemble them as I would think that a stiffening wiper arm spindle would quickly trash a new link.  When my daughter's previous Ibiza had this problem, I did buy new links - the main problem with that car was that the rain water drained down through the drain hole in the scuttle  and straight onto the link socket, so it rusted up the ball end of the spindle and possibly the metalwork on the link arm and then one day it let go!

I've ordered everything that I think I will need when I do the job, if I can repair the existing links then I will just return the new ones, thanks for the tip on the spindles
