Check lights

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have currently two messages in my car. "Check left main beam" and "Check right reverse light". The main beam flickers sometimes, while I have not seen anything wrong with the reverse lights. Can anybody tell me whats wrong? Do I just need new new lightbulbs? how long should they last? I have had the car in 4 years. Please answer as soon as possible as the warranty on the car stops tuesday 30.jan.2018. I have to stop by Skoda tomorrow morning if there is something I can fix on the warranty. Thank you.

Change the bulb and if that doesn’t fix it get it looked at? Bulb can’t be that expensive.

Just wanted to know if the error rmessage was something else than just changing the bulb, since the warranty is out in 24hours.

If it is still in warrenty, get it to the dealers before it expires or at least phone them with the problem description.

Even if they dont find the problem you have something official recorded in the system before your warrenty has expired.

If you try to fix it yourself & find that its not the bulb (which is unlikely if it is flickering - more likely a connection or wiring problem) then you will have to convince them to cover it Under warrenty.

I went to the dealer this morning. He said the backlight was the bulb, but the front light was probably not the bulb. But then he said, contradictory of what he told me on the phone, that he could not fix this under the warrenty. He said the problem had to be fixed before the warrenty ends, not just registered the problem. I feel that is wrong. If it was two weeks left of the warrenty he could still have said, "sorry, I have no available time". It was more that 2 weeks waiting period now. As long as I report something wrong before the warrenty goes out I feel they should fix the problem. Tried calling the dealer in another town, they were a bit frendlier and would check it out a bit closer and get back to me (he was new in the job so I guess I will get a negative feedback). The first dealer told me the first approach, that it had to be fixed before the warrenty goes out was in line with global Skoda practice. Is that correct? Anyone?

Contact Skoda Norway - your instinct is correct. Not having available workshop time is not a reason to fail to honour a warranty.

Exactly as above...

Also, just because something fails 1 hour, 1 week, 1 month out of warrenty doesn't mean you cannot claim on the warrenty but you need a nice dealership of good conversation with Skoda Norway.

You can also offer a technical answer to this as well.

The fault code which triggers this warning "check the bulb" will have a history which says when the fault code was first trigger.

This is for sure before your warrenty expired so therefore should be honored by Skoda.

The official import agency for Skoda in Norway (Harald Moller) and the dealer in the another close by city meant that the warrenty should cover this problem, so I got my self a new Skoda dealer. Just have to drive 15 minutes extra, no probem. Thanks for the answers.

Who was 'he' that said the front light was probably not the bulb?  Was it a Service Desk receptionist or a Trained Technician?

Was this after trying in a new bulb?

Is the new bulb now fitted at the rear done there and then or by you?

He is the Chief Technician. We did not try a new bulb. It is light in the bulb all the time, but it is flickers and restarts (and I get error message). I have a set up a workshop time at the other dealership in mid febryary. They will also fix the reverse bulb. I see now that it is not light in that bulb at all, so that is probably just the bulb (I did not know how to see the reverse light alone, but I know it now).
