Engine Management Warning vs. Start-Stop

Featured Replies

13 plate Octavia III 1.4 TSI.

Start-Stop failure showed up on central information display followed by Engine Management Warning Light.

Question - does Stop-Start failure cause EM warning to appear or does EM warning disable  start-stop?

Apart from start-stop failure car otherwise seems fine.

Any experience / thoughts please?

I have the coil light flashing occasionally due to an EGT sensor being intermittent and this causes the STOP START to be disabled and show the warning failed notification.

I’d find someone local with VCDS to give it a scan.

If you have almost any engine ECU problem (sensor, electrical connection etc) the first warning you will see on the Maxidot is:

StartStop Unavailable & or Cruise Control/ACC Not Available.

In this case the mentioned function is not available because of the fault detected by the ECU. (i.e. fault is the real problem)

If the messages says "StopStart Error" then this should indicate a problem with one of the components related to StopStart, battery, alternator, brake, clutch, gear position switches, bonnet switch, engine sensors etc.

Either way, you will need an OBD scanner or diagnostic tool to be able to read what fault code you have to determine how to correct it.

Or a trip to a dealer or local garage to do it for you.

Many thanks. It’s booked in on Wednesday.

I just hope it’s not something I have done.
