Great result for Verne and ex-Audi driver Lotterer for their 1-2.  (Despite hitting each other so hard they mated for a couple of seconds).

Buemi third making it a Renault powered 1,2 and 3With the step up in power about 15 hp each year, and more good drivers it is getting more exiting to watch.

Even when the locations are "glamorous" like New York it still looks like racing in a car park. Birmingham's F3000 street track was way superior to FE venues. Even RedBull Soapbox Derby is more exciti

That's ramped up the excitement a bit then.😀

Yes. just like watching Dulux dry is more entertaining than watching Crown or Brolac.

Renault leaving the series later this year?

It's on the up I'm sure but most Motorsport fans love noise... they've certainly not stopped moaning since the current quieter F1 started.

Lot more exiting than F1 which is, most of the time, just watching Lewis Hamilton, or Seb, or sometimes Max, driving largely on their own at the front, dullest format of Motorsport ever.  At least the Merc F1 cars are largely British made I suppose even if they have a Merc badge on  them.

New EV cars for later this year will get rid of car change as batteries twice the range plus more powerful

Well I just watched the finale of season 4 from a car park in Brooklyn NY, having not watched since the opener (of season 1) which was quite good as I recall.

I found the racing really dull to watch with no strategy variation to mix it up. All the drivers were driving to a battery percentage which often made them unable to defend on the straights (just like with DRS in F1).  The terrible commentary team didn't make it any more exciting either.

Watching Dragon's smashed up cars doing the same lap time as intact ones was just taking the p155 frankly.

One had no front wing and one had no rear (they collided on lap one) indicating that all the aero is just for show, and also that the stewards wont stop dangerous cars driving around . What if more bodywork flew off and hit a driver in the head ? (RIP Justin Wilson & Henry Surtees).

When F1 have the halo, and Indycar are going that way too, how can Formula E justify those risks?

Is that Formula E's USP now ? - its more dangerous for the drivers...or at least as dangerous as electric dodgems can get.

Maybe I'll tune in in another 4 years and see if there's been any progress  - or if all the big German manufacturers coming in have made it worse by then.

Off to watch some real petrol head TV now - I'm thinking  some archived 500 GP races might be exciting enough!

Yeah, I don't get how Scalext Formula E gets described as "motor racing" at all. Particularly when all the camera angles are so close it's actually hard to tell from the pictures where they are!

You know, there was a moment when I did think I was watching slot cars. A high camera angle looking down on a straight so reminded me of racing my kid on his mini Scalextric track.

I expect there will be a techno arms-race between Mercedes Porsche BMW and Audi in the next couple of years and the series will implode when all the other teams give up.

That's what always happens in World Sports Cars when the manufacturers come in.

The second part of this year in formula-e, using the outgoing GEN1 cars, has been a bit odd and we can only look forward to the Gen2 starting later this year with no mid race car swap, more power etc.

Well done Techeetah-Renault for another series winning driver and annoying ex-Audi driver messed it up for a make win as well as the driver win by getting penalties again.

New Gen2  cars a somewhat quicker with 340 hp  but I think they missed a trick as if they had gone to 4 wheel drive, as is so easy with EVs, they could have got some acceleration to put F1 cars to shame.

Looking forward to Hong Kong in 4 and a bit months time when we can see these Gen 2 cars in action and with some the new competitors as well as the existing ones new cars.

Goodbye Gen1, a good start to what will likely be the dominate class of 4 wheel motorsport within the next 5 years  and what will Gen3 bring, hopefully 4 wheel drive, 2 second 0-60,  10 seconds to 220  mph.

I don't know how they plan to stop an all out manufacturer development war. Audi are already looking some way ahead of the field, but lost this season to reliability issues. I don't expect the little people like Mahindra and Jag to stay very long when the big teams run off at the front.

Third race of the Gen-2 cars.......

Welcome to the future.    Welcome to Gen2.

https://www.fiaformulae.com/en/discover/cars-and-technology

While the Championship might be only five years old, the technology racing around the track is ever-changing. The 2018/19 season sees 22 brand new Gen2 cars racing around 12 city circuits for the very first time in the history of the series. The Batmobile-esque all-electric racer has double the energy storage capacity of the Gen1 car, meaning it can complete a whole race, so no more mid-race car swaps. With 250kW of power, the Gen2 will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 2.8-seconds and go on to a top speed of 280km/h. Greater speeds, more action on track and with just one car per driver - there's everything to lose.

5 second penalty for Sam, then Techcheetah protested the results saying the penalty wasn't harsh enough, It rumbled on till after midnight. Got bored of waiting - this is exactly why NASCAR never changes the published result, even if the winners are later found to have cheated ( they lose the points and get fined / banned though). I can't remember who "won" the Hong Kong e-prix. A bloody farce.

What a load of crap FIA Formula E is IMHO.

Even from Monaco.  They squealing noise just being annoying.

No idea why a presenter would say the fastest growing motorsport on the planet!  Is that actually true?

Never seen anything much about FIA Formula E other than on these programmes and some new programmes.

Other forms of EV Motorsport yes.

Love seeing the Electric Motor Bikes at the likes of the IOM.

Agree George keep watching the races (last 2 from Rome and Paris) and the only noise I hear is the excitable commentators and the squealing tyres which make a very similar sound.:tongueout:But great publicity for major manufacturers with 7 different winners from the first 7 races and Porsche and Mercedes keen to join Jaguar, Audi and BMW already competing in their glorified milk floats.:sleepy:

Thirded; due to camera angles and paint designs I can't even reliably tell which team is which, never mind identify drivers at a glance.

FIA missed a couple of tricks with the GEN 2 cars.

Great that there is no car change half way through the race but they should have been 4 wheel drive.  We would have seen acceleration better than F1 cars, up to 100 mph if not 150 mph.

I like the use of road tyres ie the excellent Michelin Sport 4Ss.

Season One of GEN 2 Formula e finishes in a couple of months and we should be the GEN 3 cars in just over two years time and we need to see 200 mph plus GEN 3 cars, 4 wheel drive and races of at least an hour IMO.  Want to see them doing the full F1 Monaco circuit and beating the F1 times by a substantial margin as EVs can do on the road in acceleration in most cases !

Noise could be improved with wind driven Jericho trumpets maybe !

Amusing that a RACE car has the same tyres as my Octavia road car but current F1 cars accelerate from 0-150mph in 6 seconds. How long does it take a Formula E racer to reach 240kph or can it actually go that fast. What would demonstrate how slow they currently are would be to line one up at Silverstone GP circuit against Hamilton's Mercedes from a standing start and see how far behind it is over a lap. My guess at least 30 seconds per lap. In other words light years with no aural drama unfortunately.:sleepy:

Google tells me that Formula E can hit 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds and in theory eventually reach 174mph. In qualifying they can unleash 335bhp (almost as much as my road car) but during the race this limited to 268bhp so that they can last the race distance. A F1 car has 3 times the power and can reach 230mph at Monza or Baku with low downforce trim. Formula E race tyres are 2kg (front) and 2.5kg (rear) lighter than the equivalent size Michelin road tyres (a saving of 9kg per car) and run on 18" alloys (also smaller than my road car).

Anyone know if Formula Scalextric runs shaved tyres or full  tread? Shaved tyres would explain them being lighter than new examples of the same road tyre.

Cut slicks as they don't have to cope with rain (usually dry indoors).;)

To be honest I'd rather watch formula W (and that's from someone who generally loathes women's sport). Championship leader Jamie Chadwick is a prospect though. She beat all the lads to take the title in British GT, is a race winner in F3 and champion of the 2019 MRF Challenge (the Asian F3 winter series in effect).
