Question to all about Skoda SUperb and driving direction

Featured Replies

Hi everybody. Sorry for my englsh but I'm from Bulgaria. Anyway, that doesn't matter. I want to ask, if anyone knows if it's possible to buy Skoda from UK but with left direction? I want to compare the prizes and if it's cheaper, I'll get one from UK. I'm driving Mazda 6 now, but I want the 280 h.p. 4x4 Skoda Superb.
Thank to all and greeting.
It's really nice forum that you have here.

Welcome,

I've never heard of anyone buying a LHD car in the UK. I wouldn't have thought that UK prices would be very cheap.

Indeed. Same here. No one is buying right direction. if I want to buy right direction it will be cheaper I guess.

That's my point. If anyone can help me with this it would be great. I mean to call dealer ask about that :)

Any help will be well apreciated

I recently bought a new LHD L&K 150 DSG from the U.K. and imported it to France duty free and paid the VAT here. I used Forces Cars Direct, a company that is aimed at British forces personnel and diplomats based in Europe. My wife works for the UN in Switzerland, so we have international diplomatic status (if we lived in Switzerland our car would be duty free). I don't know if it would be possible to order a car via them without having some kind of official expatriate status.

There are other companies doing the same thing - I have heard good things about Griffin cars based in Brighton. You should make enquiries to see if any of these companies will act for you as non-forces/diplomat.

Even after paying the VAT locally, the car has worked out at up to 30 percent cheaper than offers from the local dealers in Haute Savoie. Cars are overpriced here - relatively, considerably more so since the pound weakened after the referendum. I recall back in the day people from the U.K. would go to Belgium in order to obtain cheaper cars than those available in Britain. Those days are long gone.

Well, thanks for the info. I'll try to connect with those companies you said and we'll see what will happend.

I have a friend in London that I just spoke to and he went to one of the local dealers. They told him, that is not possible to buy Skoda with left hand direction due to law restrictions and he told me, that you can't register LHD in UK. I don't know if that's true. That's what he told me.

Anyway I'll do the research about Forces Cars Direct and Griffin

Thank you.

You have to export a LHD car within 2 months - you get a temporary UK registration that should give you enough time to get registration in the country you're exporting to.

Ask them to tell you which law.

Many UK built and registered street sweeper vehicles are built left hand drive.  Means the driver has a good view of the brush and the kerb while driving in the same direction as the rest of the traffic.

The british army also uses many LHD vehicles.

A friend of mine just checked prices for an Octavia RS245. He found it to be cheapest in Poland; that might be easier for you?

If you are looking to import, You cannot go by the list price in the target country. Many countries such as Ireland have a vehicle registration tax which adds thousands of € that you would not have to pay, there are also differences in VAT charged (Ireland is 23%) when you can pay the VAT in your home country. You also cannot go by list prices because you are paying cash (i.e. no trade in) so there will be discounts to be got, to me countries such as the UK have slightly inflated list prices (taking taxes into account) but this does allow for some significant discounts.

My example was "raw prices" W/O registration taxes.
