Front Wiper motor failure

Featured Replies

Went shopping this morning and the front wiper worked fine on our outward journey but on our return to the car no front wiper. As I’d treated the windscreen with Rainex I managed to get home OK in the rain. I checked the fuse and everything looked like it had power so I called my dealer, some 20 miles away at Letchworth, and after a quick chat they suggested if I could get over the technician who was due to clock off at 12 would wait and take a look.

After checking voltages and feed to the motor it was diagnosed as a failed motor, or part of the internal gearbox, as they could trigger a half wipe but no return. (The magic butt end of a screwdriver) They checked for stock, not a stocked item, so I was offered a curtesy car and asked to await a call on Monday.

Great service and probably one of the best reasons to use them once again when I come to buy the next car.

Update,  wiper motor is on back order, the garage is trying to expedite a replacement.  Internestingly the service tech offered me a 60% discount  on the cost of £360 as a good will gesture!  Eventually I convinced him it was a warranty claim as the car was registered in Sept 2016.  It would appear that he’d looked at the “bespoke” number plate and pulled up my previous Yeti 2013.

make certain he fitted it to the correct vehicle because he doesn't appear to be able to tell the difference

@Sad555,  he was sooooo convinced when he was talking to me and very happy he’d got a discount. I had to tell him I was ending the call so he could check his records!

Update, I got a call at the end of the yesterday to say I could collect the car today. They said that surprisingly the motor had turned up much earlier than expected.  I just hope it is a new motor and not one taken off another car to get me going and get the curtesy car back.  I had this happen a few years ago with a repeated oil pump on a Freelander, which failed about three months later, making three fitted in all.
