Playing music

Featured Replies

Hi forum members. I'm new to this forum but I have been reading the posts for a couple of weeks and have found them very informative. I have a karoq 1.5 SEL on order with ACC, and heated screen as an option. My question is about playing music. I currently have an iPod but as the car only has one usb sockets (very poor when my 6yr old Honda CRV has 2) and I want to use android auto I'll have to find another way to play my music. I've looked at Google play music but on other sites people have said you have very little choice on choosing the music you can play. How do other forum users play music with android auto? Some people have mentioned an SD card on other sites. How many SD card slots does the admunsen system have?

I have a huge sd card in my phone, copy across from itunes and play via Bluetooth at the moment in my qashqai. I will do the same (or use Android auto) when the Karoq arrives

The Amundsen system has 2 SD card slots, one of which has the sat nav card in it. I use the other one for my music, you can copy plenty onto an SD card.

I also play music via Bluetooth from my mobile phone very successfully.

Speaking generally, I'm not sure why people are saying there's  not much choice?

AA and CarPlay supply online content and support for nav and msges.

In addition you have options for local content via the SD card (not just MP3, lossy/lossless formats too) and via the phone itself through USB and Bluetooth.

So far as online is concerned, if you want to use AA I'm guessing you'll be changing your phone?

AA has greater support for third party music streaming services, in addition of course to GP Music (inc audiobooks).

In our current Yeti I've used AA through Smartlink extensively in the UK and Europe and love it :-)

I'm not worried about streaming music. Just playing music locally from the phone. When I tried to do it on a friend's AA, GPM wouldn't let me choose individual albums or songs, only playlists. I don't have a problem with using AA as I'm looking forward to having it for using Google maps. I was also hoping to play my local music through it too. Do you have the ability to choose individual albums, songs and playlists when using Bluetooth?

Don't know about Bluetooth Janner. I never use it. I don't store any content on my phone so use the SD card for local and GP Music etc for online.

My main computer music I've backed up to GP and don't seem to have a problem with individual tracks or albums.

For nav, AA has the advantage of supporting Waze now, as well as Google Maps, so there's a choice in nav too.

Apple's CarPlay only has Apple Maps.

Thank you. I use both Google maps and Waze but direct from the phone. I'm looking forward to using it with AA. The music on GP, is that streamed? Does it use alot of data?

Video can use a lot, but audio isn't bad. I've got a quite high data allowance (26GB) so never been concerned, and especially as roaming charges in the EU have been abolished.

Before the new rules, I did check data for a run across to Lake Como and via Belgium, France, Switzerland, to Italy (and back) Google Maps used about 300Mb.

I'd expect audio to be more but for the longer trips where coverage might be patchy (and non-existent in tunnels etc) I'd use the SD card.
