Tyre Rotation

Featured Replies

Just had my original tyres rotated at 22,000 miles by a national tyre chain . Partly because I wanted to check that the wheels were not jammed in place (they were not) and partly to prepare for all 4 tyres to be swapped. Cost £26 including balancing (that was their minimum charge anyway). Worth it I'd say for the effort involved. I'll get an estimated 25,000 miles out of the Michelin Energy, 205/55/16, which I reckon is excellent for me and possibly a lifetimes personal best.

The Michelins have excellent wear rating index of 400, fuel consumption and braking ratings B and A respectively, so I'm thinking of the same again when the time comes. ~£75 per tyre (cheap compared to those on my previous Mk2). I've also looked at 4 seasons tyres such as Vredestein Quatrac 5 which are a lot more expensive nowadays. My previous favourites Barum Bravuris do not have such a good overall rating but are cheaper. Any other ideas to tempt me away from the oe spec?

Michelin's do generally wear well and last. If you're happy with them and the cost, I'd go same again.

Blackcircles had a 40 quid discount  on some Michelin 17" tyres cross climate I think  right now if you buy 4. If that helps.

It was on my pilots when I got them.

cheapest 19s Michelins are £169 per corner on black circles...

i had a set of Michelins on my golf did 100K and still had loads of tread but the sidewall had small hairline cracks.

Hmm tempting to go for Cross Climates from Black Circles,  in my size £82 fitted by tyre local chains, with the current voucher code , but downside is reduced mpg and unknown tyre life.

Glad I have 16" though.

Michelin tyres are generaly very good i use to run energys on previous cars and there a very good tyre, quiet, and the last ages. My octavia has noisy contis on however i am up to 23k and they still have 4.5mm on the front, i am loathed to get rid early. I drive manly dual carriage way and motorway.

I have read the tread pattern on the cross climates tend to fling stones up, one of the many user reviews, i know some one at work who has them on his golf, and says there a quiet, grippy tyre. I dont know how they will wear long term though.

I think the goodyear efficient grip is a decent tyre, this will be my next choice.

When I had my Fabia SE 1.6TDi estate I had the tyres rotated at 10 and 20k and finally swapped the Continentals for Hankooks off Blackcircles at 34000 miles. The Hankooks were certainly quieter than the Contis and were still wearing well when I sold the Fabia at 50000 miles.

I didnt get the tyres swapped on my Octavia at the 10k service but certainly will at 20k,

Just had mine rotated on the VRS tdi. 16 plate, 20k miles. Standard potenzas from factory and there was 6mm on the rears and between 3-4mm on the fronts. Should do me for another few k then I can get rid and swap for something better
