Tailgate/hatchback adjustment

Featured Replies

Skoda fabia VRS 2006

My bootlid/tailgate at some point in its life has been painted for some reason, and is out of alignment with the roof line, it actually looks slumped down, like its moved downwards with gravity, the boot alignment looks relatively ok though with the tail lights etc.

I adjusted it the opposite way to start with, where it looked where the torx bolts had originally been, as there were witness marks from the bolt heads, this made it slump down further, I then adjusted it back to where Id found it.  Clearly only small adjustments for gap and alignment can be made here?  The passenger side tip of the bootlid has caught the paintwork and worn through the paint below the roof line luckily, so something is misaligned!

So, is there any adjustment inside the roof to the actual hinge?  I’d hope for upwards movement of easily 5mm or slightly more to bring the tailgate back inline with the roof skin, this needs doing both right and left on the hinges.

any advice please?

Im guessing to do the job properly, I need the get the roof lining out, I need to lower or remove it anyway to fit my new DAB aerial, so can easily remove A,B and C pillar trims etc and fully remove, I didn’t want to crease it!

When I bought the car in october last year I didn’t notice the alignnent issue, only that the bootlid was a pig to shut with a slight slam, as the drivers side part of the boot near the light cluster would sit proud, Id then have to slam the bootlid harder (not excessive) to close properly, maybe by doing this for 4 months has made the bootlid slump down, ir maybe its misaligned or bent by a previous repair or whatever.

Im painting the bootlid and spoiler and bumper again anyhow, so want the alignment and gaps right beforehand.

I took the car to a bodyshop this morning who said that theres no up and down hinge to roof movement? Only in and out?   Otherwise its tailgate to hinge which Ive already done, he also said the hinges might be bent from previous damage, Im not convinced just yet.

cheers in advance

I think if you look at the rear end of the headlining you'll see a small separate panel that comes away to give access to the hinge mounting bolts?

Never been there myself, so no idea if these will give you the adjustment you need.
