Heater problem

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a problem. My heater works fine, but after 2 - 3 hours, the vents close. The fan engine is still working fine, but air is not coming out of any of the vents.

Any experience with this?

Need to know a bit more about your heater and settings. Is it a basic heater plus air-con or is it Climatronic.  Is it set to Auto or are you manually adjusting the distribution??

A Climatronic system has sensors for footwell temperature, and sunlight level as well as more normal temp sensors, so the distribution of air is constantly changing the vents to give you the best comfort. For just one example, in sunny condition it aims for a head temperature that is cooler than feet.

Thank you for replying. It is the version, where I have to set everything manually. So that would be the basic heater plus air-con. I can also add that when this happens, and I hit the Interieur ventilation button - it sounds like the fan engine is blocked.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Cheers

Sounds like it could be a faulty flap valve motor but strange that it is time or temperature dependent. Try cycling between the various outlets (foot, centre/vents and screen) to see if that will move the flap back to normal.

The Climatronic system has reset and test procedures by pressing a combination of control buttons so there is probably a similar system on yours but I am not familiar with it.

Always worth looking on VW Golf forums too as these cars use the same or similar parts to ours. If you can perform a test function, it will throw up a fault code.

Please take a moment some time to add more details to your profile, in particular the model, trim level, model year, engine size (and code if you know it) plus your location as these all help in identifying known problems and members close to you who can help with a diagnostic scan.
