Painting Seat strut brace

Featured Replies

Hi, my front strut brace arrive today, & it's a lovely orange, I wanna paint it skoda green, but I don't wanna use spray cans, wrong time of year outside & too enclosed inside.

I'm new to this painting lark (bar emulsioning walls) so I was thinking Smoothrite, anyone know if it comes in Skoda green before I trawl the town for some?

Also, I take it all I need to do is key the orange paint with some sandpaper, clean off the dust & slap it on, let dry & do it again?

Or are you all ****ing yerselves laughing by now? :D

Yup, all ****ing ourselves laughing by now!

OK so my skills are IT ones these days, but gimme some slack, I got 1s for my craft & design work, admittedly a wee while ago now...not everyone's a petrol/dieselhead, some encouragement is due for not just paying some random to do it for me no?

All I need are some sensible pointers & I can take it from there...

I sprayed and fitted mine early february. It was not ideal conditions and it took about 2-3 hours to dry enough for me to fit it but it is perfectly possible if you are careful

As long as you get a dry day it will be fine to spray. Green smooth Hammerrite is good stuff and just the right colour, if the strut is new I doubt you will need to key the surface in either although a quick flat off with some 600 paper wouldn't hurt.

A few coats will be needed and a bit of patience. You don't need m4d l337 5k1llz with a spray tin either, just a nice dry day and plenty of time.

Do it indoors with spray. Bit of fumes wont keep you. I used the kitchen table. Put paper everywhere. Saying that though my Dad wasnt a happy bunny.

They never are when the kitchen/dining room is turned into a workshop or paint shop. Its amazing how good kitchen knives can be at cutting though bits of fog light surround and how the lights in the dining room can help dry recently painted brake calipers!!!!

Dont use a paint brush. Use a spray. You will not get a good enough finish otherwise

............You could always use the cat!

My six year old Son had to paint a picture at home about a week ago, Unfortunately, it wasn't drying fast enough, so he plucked up the sleeping cat and proceeded to 'dry' the picture with her.

"There", he announced. all done now!

^ artistic cat, I suppose?

I'd wait 'til it warms up a bit before painting it...........and spray it, don't use a brush!

Rub it down with some sandpaper to key it in. I used some primer before the top coats of satin black.

Sorry northern, couldn't resist. :D

I haven't a clue about the painting/spraying but I know Ford Mondeo green is the same colour as the calipers so that might be a good start down at your local Halfrauds.

Hmm using a cat - sure the cat was pleased about that

Suppose I'll have to get the strut off and buy a spray can :D
