Sump Plug Compression Ring?

Featured Replies

Im about to do an oil and filter change. Do I need one of those copper compression rings on the sump plug that some cars have. Or anything else? Thank you for any pointers.

New sump plug.

Yip change the full sump plug as they tend to strip if over used the new washer is part of the plug:thumbup:

I've seen people never change the sump plug washer. If you tighten the plug with care, it's.. okay. I wouldn't use one more than twice, but I I have and haven't had any issues.

Picked one up from a local parts store for 2,90€ when I did an oil change. They're asking 1,90€ now.

P.S. not buying more of those oil filters.

£2 - £2.50 for a New Sump plug unless you are being ripped off, and still change it even if sucking out the oil,

drain the last oil out the sump.

I haven't used Bosch filters on the Skoda, but I have on other, older cars.  What was wrong with your Bosch filter?

Nothing exactly wrong, but it has an all paper construction. Feels very light and flimsy and didn't go in very easily. Double-checked the size and everything, was all good. Cost more than a Wix and I felt like I was getting less for the money.

Thanks for the advice everyone; this is a great forum

My sump plug kept on leaking, even after changing the steel (?!?!?) ring to copper. Than I found out that this Ford plug had the same thread (M14x1.5), and a rubber o-ring:

So I bought this plug (for about 3 euro) and finally my leaking plug problem was solved! I will never use a VAG-plug again!

(Disclaimer: It fits perfectly in my 1.8 TSI (so it will also fit the 2.0 TSI), for other engine types you have to check yourselves if there is a large enough flat (sealing) surface available around your present plug)
