Countdown to March 1

Featured Replies

What I want to know is why my car (and others) arrived at the dealer without any protection foil - unless the dealer whipped it off straight away. From the state of the paintwork it never had any.

I pick mine up March 1st, the weather today has been grim with snow hail and sub zero temperatures. How they will prep the car is a mystery considering the dozens they have to do on Thursday and if its blowing a snowy sub zero gale then how I can inspect it before accepting?

Can't tell you about the foil sorry, but I did see a brand new Sportline at my dealer yesterday taken straight off the lowloader and in to the car park - no foil. So you certainly aren't the only one.

Can you get them to put it in the showroom for your acceptance inspection? (if so tell them not to cover it for a "reveal" - it's likely to do more damage to the paint than it is worth for the "surprise").

You'll still love it when you get it..

Mine has been sat at the dealers complete with foil for 6 weeks now - this is it straight off the low loader. Its due prep this week for collection next Monday.  I thought they all came with the plastic film over the paintwork etc.

I plan to inspect and photograph it carefully and I've written a checklist of stuff to confirm. I think the dealer has an inside collection area, but if not then I might ask politely if they can pop it in the workshop if the weather is inclement.

I'm only being this anal about it as when we collected SWMBO's Yeti from another dealer, we were talked into collecting in the dark on a winters night just before Christmas rather than in mid-January as planned. We then ended up in a dispute over a scratched speedo 'glass' I didn't notice which ended in me writing to the MD in order to get it resolved after the 'sales (mis)manager' accused me of causing the damage. Needless to say we are not using them for the Superb and won't used them to replace the Yeti, so there is a few quid of sales they lost there.

Much confusion about how to handle scrappage at dealer. Result is now I've lost another months tax (£21.75) plus a wasted journey yesterday.

Car waiting in showroom today, valeted.......except.....deep scratch on drivers door above and in front of handle. Very visible and through lacquer and paint to metal! The car had been thoroughly inspected only minutes before so must have been done by a showroom punter passing by it.

So its going into the paint shop. Hope they don't bodge it.

Why do I always have a stressful time when I visit car showrooms?

Car interior pitch black, can hardly see anything, why did I choose black leather????

Bad luck mate:sadsmile: What's the new ETA on pick-up? FYI I have black leather and was prowling around a new one with black leather in the dealer while my service was being done on Monday. In short - don't worry. Showroom lighting is not brilliant, and the dealer car looked darker than a dark thing on the inside. It's not like that at all once you are in it / out in the open.

Been waiting for over six months for mine, and it’s been at the dealers since early November, supposed to pick up this Saturday from Gloucester about 35 miles away, but with this weather it looks like I might have wait, just took me 2 1/2 hours to drive home from Gloucester tonight so probably leave it Saturday for now, also can’t see Arvell coming to pick up my leased van tomorrow so I will be stuck with an uninsured van parked on a narrow street. Not the weekend I had planned,

Sorry to hear that Blowhard. But the idea of taking a brand new car out in this is not my idea of fun, so a good call on your part I think. I'm not so far away from you and my car is going nowhere until it all calms down a bit (aka quite a lot). Worst conditions I've seen in the 8 years since I moved to the westcountry.

Yes just had the call from Arrvell not collecting van and ime not risking a brand new car in this weather looks like next week now

i bet the dealers are struggling to get out all the new cars busiest time of year

Finally took delivery yesterday.  Scratch repaired.  Great handover, the salesman took a great deal of time and care explaining use of the tech in detail which I appreciated. There is a lot to learn.

Only driven it home so far, first time I've driven a Superb myself. Initial impressions are favourable and it is indeed in a different league to the Octavia which was my initial purchase intention.

Only niggles so far as mentioned by others are road roar from the P7's even at 40mph, will need more time to see if it is a nuisance. Also the wing mirrors are very small and rear view with them is restricted and narrow.

It was a very tight fit through my 2.10m wide garage opening, parking sensors going insane and of no help. Reversing out will be even more nerve racking.

Need more time driving before I can comment any further.

Finally! Good to hear you had a decent dealer experience. Enjoy the new car – there is a lot to learn but it's certainly worth it.

Are you saying, that you can´t have a testdrive (where you´re actually driving the car yourself) prior to a purchase in the UK?!

I originally wanted to take the scrappage offer on an Octavia, which I already know very well, and while in the showroom before starting negotiations, I walked past a Superb to get to look at the showroom Octavia and immediately noticed how boring/dull/small the Octavia looked in comparison. A closer look round the Superb and the design and build quality looked so much better for only a little more money. And I already knew about the multi link rear suspension. Wife confirmed she preferred it so went ahead and ordered one. Just before signing, asked for a brief test drive, which was indeed very brief as I got an urgent call to go home, so never drove it but driven as a passenger for 5 mins.

Relied on the many reviews and this forum in particular which has been very helpful.

Time will tell if I made a good decision. :smirk: I'm fairly sure I have.

Done a whole 300 miles in mine now, 250 in one hit home from the dealers. It certainly lives up to the name. its also filth now :)

Re the sensors - welcome to the only thing I really don't like about my new car. Did you spec the side sensors? If so, a small crumb of comfort. If you have a straight run in and out of the garage, on the way in just ignore the cacophony (mine tells me the front and rear wings on both sides are  immediately about to hit something at the same time – sounds like a bleedin’ 1970s panda Car!). Use the screen if needed to check how close you are at the front. When reversing, once the front side sensors are clear of the door the noise should go away and the sensors will work normally.
For a life-shortening exercise in pure terror, take it round a multi storey car park:o

..or push the little button that has a P and a cone on it next to the gearstick to turn it off in situations like that...

Didn't think of that (the salesman did mention that in our teach in session). Yes have the side sensors, and they are as BriskodaJeff says.

Anyway reversing out today was relatively easy using mirrors.

Oh, and had the 1.4 tsi strangled lamb sound on first start this morning. :dull:

Sorry  - should have mentioned this. Just be aware though. From memory pushing the button turns the park pilot screen off (when going forward at least). I was wary of doing this in the early days before I'd got used to the length of the car.
