TSI on LPG?

Featured Replies

Any owners here who have installed LPG in their 2.0 TSI cars?
I'm considering having a kit installed but I'd like to get some real user experiences first.
Last thing I want is having someone install a 2,5k euro kit and than find out it drives like **** :-D

Thanks !

LPG has a lower calorific value than petrol so LPG conversions are normally down on power but at >50p a litre or whatever it is now, it'd probably be worth it (will you recoup the 2.5K euro in savings?). But begs the question why buy a performance car and then hobble it, wouldn't it have been cheaper and simpler to buy a more economical car to start with? Apologies if I appear to be overly negative.

If it is a direct injection petrol, then they are more difficult to convert unfortunately. My Mk1 has a multipoint system on it, and can barely tell the difference between that and petrol (may just be the way I drive though, lol) LPG actually has a higher RON than super unleaded - somewhere in the region of 100-100 RON, whereas most SU is 97 RON, so it actually gives off more power, but is harder to ignite.

There are companies out there than can do conversions on direct injection petrols, but it has to be done on a car by car basis.

Driving wise - no different to petrol really. In normal day to day driving you won't really notice the difference, and when you want to "play" just switch back to petrol :)

Apologies not needed ;-)

I know its a controversial topic, I don't really mind paying for my petrol but it would save my roughly 2000 euro/year so it's a substantial amount.
Ofcourse I wouldn't take the plunge if it would give me a headache which is why I'm asking for other RS drivers who have done the same thing ;-)

I drive a 2015 Ford Fiesta ST on LPG which is also direct injection. It works pretty good but not perfect.

Driven it for about 40k km's now and no real problems but if I'd get a cracked cilinder head in the next 10.000km or so my savings would be gone. That's a gamble I don't really know if I should take ;-)
